I guess Nissan thought we preferred our cars to over heat and go into limp mode.

That's an over-reaction in the US market. It just doesn't happen on the street (unless you drive like a total A$$hole). Wanna track your car? get a cooler.

Just an FYI, the oil cooler above circulates coolant as previously mentioned to warm the oil when it's cold and cool it down when it's hot. It's not very efficient though and a separate aftermarket oil cooler does a much better job at it.

The hard lines go all the way to the heater pipe on the driver's side engine head. The other outlet for the cooler goes to another water pipe located right under the exhaust port on piston #6 on the driver's side engine block.

As far as which models got it, it comes on all VQ35DE although the pipe routing is different. It does not come on the VQ35HR and VQ37VHR in the US regardless of the model year. It DID however come pre-installed from factory to all G35's, G37's and 370Z's shipped to the Middle East and apparently Australia as well. I'm assuming there's more locations yet to be known.

The same oil cooler is also installed on all AWD G35's and G37's regardless of location.

Anyhow, below is a diagram from the FSM showing the routing of the pipes. This is on an HR which is identical to a VHR.
^^ great info and pics, thanks. +1 rep

So, the question now is will the dealers order and install one and keep warranty in tact. I still want something, but really do not want to void warranty just yet....

Dustin@Z1 09-11-2010 08:54 AM

Hard to tell. I will tell you this. Any item that comes from out of the country...either from Japan, Europe or Canada for a Nissan Dealership is channeled thru Nissan Motorsports.

Based on my experience it will take a LONG time to get. Some of these obscure parts are nearly impossible due to the various red tape and bureaucracy of NNA and Nissan Motorsports. If you want to get it faster than 6~8 weeks (or MORE) would personally recommend getting in contact with a dealership overseas and order it directly.

This will cost a bit more but will get you the parts alot quicker.

I currently have a customer looking for the JDM Headlight Sprayers for the 370z. I have been beating these guys up for weeks about a response on prices and availability with no luck.

OP,
Take a look at your rear diff cover. Is it finned and not smooth?

dude you're in Kuwait, we have finned diffs for the Z's and G's from factory (and maybe even other cars). Not the diff cover but the diff housing itself is finned. Here's a pic on my G35 sedan. US Z's and G's have a smooth diff with no fins.

That is what Nismo calls their NISMO DIFF COVER for the 370z/350z. It is ONLY available in the middle eastern markets and comes factory over there.

I heard rumors in the past that it was a factory part for you guys, but I could never get a clean cut answer. This confirms it in my mind.

Thanks guys!

Yeah, its only on certain NONE-USDM models.

Nissan is playing games with everyone. Canadian NISMO's get Navi and Middle Eastern 370z get an oil cooler.

Actually in Canada we cannot even order the nismo... Our 40th can have a nav though

Q8y_drifter,

Curious as to whether you can post the diagram with the radiator, and if you know the radiator fluid capacity specs? In Japan they have aftermarket radiators for our 370Z that are much larger and they tout them for better cooling. So I am wondering whether you have a larger factory radiator too? Thanks, and a great post on your part! rep point sent; rep point to OP too.

That's actually not the cover, but the diff casing that's finned. I haven't seen it used anywhere except in the ME spec Nissans.

The middle east spec Z's and G's are said to come with larger radiators but I can't seem to find any specific info regarding size or capacity. The FSM I have is actually US spec. I'm trying to get my hands on a ME spec FSM with no luck. I don't even know if we have a specific FSM for the ME.

Anyhow, the user manual states that the capacity for the cooling system is 9.6L/8.5qts plus 0.8L/0.75qts for the reservoir. This is for the VHR engine. The HR is slightly less.

Another interesting piece we have is a factory automatic transmission oil cooler (driver's side).

Why does none of this surprise me any longer? It would be nice if Nissan would at least provide an avenue to purchase these parts in the US. The automatic transmission cooler is simply a great accessory for increasing the life of an automatic transmission. I'm sure Nissan's US PR department is past its quota of bullsh!t reasons for not having these items on US models. Thanks for the info and pic.

My dif case is finned too.

BGTV8 09-15-2010 05:48 AM

Guys, the "cooler" is also fitted to OZ-spec Z34, and I can tell you it does not provide any coooling. I track my Z34 regualrly and after 2-3 laps on the first track day, it would drop into oil-temp limp-home. I fitted a Stillen oil cooler, now I don't have these problems.

If you are concerned at oil-temps, fit a proper cooler as the PoS pretend cooler discovered at the top of this thread will provide marginal benefit at best .................

On the subject of finned diff covers, I have the NISMO finned cover and my viscous coupling LSD has now gone out to lunch and is not coming back (Quaife ATB differential now on order). My vehcile has covered just over 30,000 klics and 7 track days now ..... at the end of the day, Mr Nissan has engineered a damn fine daily driver, but it ain't a track day weapon by any stretch. Mind you, nit many cars actually are until they;ve had a few grand tipped into them.
