Which should I start with?
 

Recently I've been able to save up a few bucks and would like to start modifying my Z. I am not too experienced in the field of mechanics but I know a few things.

My questions is:
-Does it make a difference with which modifying part I start with? i.e. supercharger, exhaust, or intake

In my opinion, the most power for the buck is getting high flow catalytic converters such as those made by Berk (I have them), Stillen, Fast Intentions, or ERZ. They open up a lot of power and give you a nice bump in sound.

Then again, it is all dependent on your budget because that will influence the recommendations you will receive.

Thanks for the input. For now my budget is at around $1500. Any recommendations for an intake or exhaust? I've been looking at the INJEN DUAL COLD AIR INTAKE and the Stillen G3 Ultra Long. Now of course my budget is not topped at $1500 that's just what I have available at the moment.

Save more than 1.5k$, Because once you start modding you will not stop Trust me!

Buy the K&N drop-ins and use the remaining $1400 for exhaust mods.

I've been hesitant to do anything to my Z...because I cannot be trusted once the first mod goes on the car.

If you have that much to play with, I would go for Stillen G3 intakes paired with Berk High Flow Cats. Both make the car's character much more aggressive especially higher up in the rev range and make it an animal! That will leave you another $500 to play with for miscellaneous things or just save it for the next round. ;)

If he plans on getting a Supercharger he probably shouldn't bother buying intakes, since the kit will come with new ones.

If you think you can pony up the cash for a supercharger soon, then I'd just save for that. You can't get a better HP/$ ratio. If not, then maybe HFC's or test pipes first... and pocket the rest.

Wow thanks for all the great suggestions and advice. I think I will go with the Intakes and HFCs first and save up for the exhaust.

The supercharger won't be for a while, coming up with that type of cash isn't too easy.

You'll be happy with that combination. And you'll spend under $1000 between both.

yeah i started with intake and HFC's and its the most efficient combo by far

Like the others have said intake and exhaust is a good solid start

My first mods were the high flow cats and a new cat back exhaust. Loved the sound from it and the bump in power was noticeable. I waited a year before I got my intakes and the time I notice the difference really is when I'm at the higher RPMs where the intakes make their presence known, such as on the track.

:iagree:^^^^^^^^^^^^^ im doing test pipes then drop in filter next wekend then exhaust next month, cuz im going to greddy TT once i get my lump some. :happydance::happydance: and it is hard to stop so do some DIY's to entertain you until the next major mod. somewhere in there i'll get the sz clutch/flywheel setup. they supposively solved the CSC issue by replacing the bearings with there own and some other things. GOOD LUCK MAN!!
