When I had the Stillen CAI installed at my Nissan dealer, I asked the mechanic if I would get a lean mixture or would I have to have the car tuned sooner than later, he told me that for now he had set it to learn mode to just drive it around a while, it would adjust and that after I installed the CBE and HFC, would be a good time for a tune.

Not sure I understand what learn mode is?

Thanks ,

Alex

I'm a little disappointed thought I would get closer to17 Whp in gains! :shakes head:

From Stillen web site.

"The power result: A dyno-proven 20 horsepower gain at the wheels on the Dual Throttle Body 350Z, 18.5 horsepower gain at the wheels on the G37 Coupe and 17.5 horsepower on the 370Z. This translates to an estimated 20-22 horsepower gain at the flywheel! For G37/G35 Sedan owners, gains are 14 horsepower at the wheels. No other intake for the VQ can match these power gains!"

Never planned on having to buy a bumper just to get 15 WHP. Then how do i get to about 360 WHP with bolt on mods?

Anyway Stillen exhaust on order next week! Not sure on the HFC ? After the Stillen exhaust is installed will I even be able to take a stock Nismo?

Thanks,

Alex

The exhausts will help and the Stillen bumper anyways is "almost" required as it has special fangs directing the air to the oil cooler which you will need to upgrade and the Intake. I think it's well worth it. It looks amazing too.

I'll post pics once it's on mine.

You will definitely be able to take a stock Nismo. I would recommend sway bars and spring kit for handling.

Not to rain on your parade but you should have researched this forum beforehand. Numerous people will tell you that the OEM intakes only become restrictive when compared to stock intakes at high RPM's (6800+). I don't recall reading a thread where someone made more than 10whp after getting these intakes. Did you get a baseline dyno before you installed the intakes? You mention you want to get to 360whp, to see how your car is responding to mods you really should have got a baseline dyno. 360whp will probably be impossible with bolt on's the most I've seen is 320whp. There are your factory freaks out there, I personally pulled 296whp with nothing but a set of test pipes on a dynojet.

You can go with the Stillen exhaust but there are a lot of exhaust options out there right now. Feel free to search or ask any of the members we're pretty cool about giving first hand reviews. Btw you might want a tune after installing the intakes, word is they tend to make you run kinda lean.

Seems there's a lot of info floating around in here, and not all of it is accurate, I'd like to correct some things.

On a stock car, seeing whp gainst of 15-20whp is very common, and really good gains with other modifications such as a cat-back exhaust and/or high flow cats is documented all over the place.

For example, a full write up and dyno: http://www.the370z.com/intake-exhaus...pressions.html

Our fascia is not necessary to achieve gains such as that, we've never had anyone see the fluctuation that motoiq did on their testing, and never got enough information from them to see why. We do not feel the difference should be nearly that dramatic, and may point to other things, their fans, etc.

Import Tuner just did a test on these components, and saw gains as well. The magazine issue should be out soon, but others have sneaked the results: http://www.the370z.com/intake-exhaus...len-uprev.html

The car will NOT run lean just with these intakes installed, and a tune is not required. If you do a full setup, including long tube intakes, cat-back exhaust, with the addition of headers AND high flow cats, it will create a lean condition that should be tuned for. Without the combination of headers and high flow cats, the A/F ratios are safe.

I hope this info helps..

Well Josh,

Glad you jump in straitened us all out! LOL

One of the reasons I went with Stillens G3 intakes was because of the higher than average gains, and the locations of the filters, plus the fact that the filters were made by K&N didn’t hurt.

I have already decided to order my CBE from Stillen , had in mind the FI, CBE but they seemed too low for 18” stock wheels.

Also felt the Stillen CBE were designed closer to OEM design, that I did not take for granted, many of these other X, H duel strait pipe designs , have issues with drone and require large resonators to compensate for design issues at additional cost , just felt for me it was a matter of substance over style !

Plus I felt the Stillen gains were just as high and better documented!

I also felt it would be best to have continuity with intake and exhaust design.

Stillen also offered a better price and free shipping which also made the offer attractive for me.

Kinder late in the game, I’m just wondering if all of this CAI,CBE,HFC would be too loud for day to day driving”.

The mechanic from Nissan that installed my G3's said the same thing concerning the tune as you! :iagree:

Well josh I've decided to throw my hat in with Stillen , so far the G3's intakes have worked as advertised. Once i install the Stillen CBE next week I'll decide on the HFC then I'll do a tune and go for a dyno!

Thanks,

Alex
