Stock LSD.... thumbs down
 

So i finally started to beat on my car pretty hard. and found that the stock lsd is really as bad as everyone makes it out to be. i could be in the middle of a turn push the car as hard as i can to get it sideways and only one tire will spin. so disapointed. :mad: yes i know if i push it harder it will come out but at that point it will be basicly uncontrollable and i like my car together haha
I loveeee drifting in parking lots and going sideways and now i cant because i basicly have an open dif. i could be in the middle of a drift and the lsd just lets go out of no where. not safe. looks like lsd is first on the list now.

I wonder why Nissan didn't put a gear-based LSD in from the factory - seems like a much better option for longevity as well. Maybe it was an NVH issue that lead them to go with the VLSD... but I don't know why they'd be concerned with NVH on a sport coupe.

a VLSD is also a third of the cost.

Good point, but to the manufacturer? I doubt that. Probably 50% less cost.

A new VLSD on Courtesy is $638.57.

I believe the reason is that if they put a true LSD in, more people would crash thier car, look at how it is now with just the viscous. Also the aggressiveness and extra maintenance would turn off a lot of people.

While I agree that there are way better diffs out there for performance, I have no issues at all maintaining a sideways slide around a corner is the 370Z with the stock diff. I do it almost every day.

The thing that hurts the VSLD setup the most is temperature. Once it starts to overheat it doesn't want to lock up. When the temps are lower it seems to be more predictable.

I think that if you are in the market for a true two door sports car. Not a Honda Accord Coupe or Tiburon GT as salemen have approached me with then why worry about aggressiveness and extra maintenance. I think it should be more aggressive! Make it what it truly has the potential to be.

i agree, just looking at it from the companies point of view.

Also change the fluid every 6 months or a year, dont go 100K miles

Don't get me wrong i can get the car sideways all day and I do but I feel like it's unpredictable.

Well sorry to say but the largest group of people who buy this car do NOT use it to go racing let alone go drifting. We are a group of people who use this car as a sports car but most of the people who buy this just want a car that is fast in a straight line but not for the track.

my dealership had sold about 40-50 Zs last year. and only 3 came to the track day at francorchamps which was me, a other guy and a demo car so that one doesn't even count.

Look at the Z4 how many people effectively track it?

This is also the reason why nissan is so "bleh" on the oil cooler issue because the majority of the people who drive it don't get it hot enough to cause a major problem.

Also if they put more aggresive parts in it, it would scare this "normal" group of people who buy this car causing less cars to be sold

BMW was the same way at the beginning... in 07, only a sport package equipped 335i came with an oil cooler

but people were having oil temp issues (similar to what I've read on here, but not as bad) and they ended up offering it on all 08+ 335is, and would install them on the 07s if they were still under warranty (meaning they didn't drive 50k in a year or 2)

I think Nissan should have offered a better LSD/Oil cooler as an option.

Yeah, the lack of a worthwhile LSD made the sport package a much tougher sell in my mind...Just gotta get around to throwing something decent in mine.
