Engine oil question :)

Hi everyone, I recently had an oil change and the shop put in Motul 300V 15W50 motor oil. I live in Manila with tropical weather that is hot all year around.

Is it ok to run this oil or is it too heavy for the VQ37?

Thanks! :icon17:

Nissan recommends 5W-30
I think you should stick to that weight.
and yes thats heavy. lol

Def stick with factory recommended 5W30 or maybe 10W 40. This car has enough oil drama already. You don't wanna add more to it. Just my :twocents:

Thanks you for the responses. I drained my 2 day old Motul 300V and replaced it with 100% synthetic Motul HTECH 5W30 because I could not find a 5W30 300V or any ester oil with 5W30.

I suppose it should be ok to not run an ester based oil? I have 700 miles on the car.

Thanks again everyone. :)

Easter oil is a huge debate on this forum some people will only use it some people won't use it...

Make sure your using a good quality oil and you should be fine!

NOOOOOO. :eekdance: your losing power man and probably gas mileage too. thats way too heavy and way too thick of and oil.

Tips to improve your Gas Mileage

if anything go 5w20. you dont need thick oil in a tropic area. Are you in guam?? cuz i used 5w20 with my scion tc.

5W-20 is way, way too thin for a performance V6 with high oil temperatures to begin with.

In a hot climate the only thing that would hurt you with 15W30 oil would be start up wear. Once up to operating temperature the 15W30 and 5W30 would be about the same viscosity and the 15W30 would be slightly more stable at higher temperatures. But best to stick close to the recommended in case there are any warranty issues.

Why is that way, way too thin? i did that with my scion and im in the tropics. i had no issue with that car, then again it was a completely different car. this is my first z so im still trying to learn everything all over again. i'm asking so i know why cuz idk. Is it cuz the oil will run too thin? Just rememberd, makes sence to not go that thin cuz the car has a high oil temp issue and combining that with tropic temps.... it would be WAY to thin when it gets warmed up. am i on the right track? thank you

I used 5w20 on my RX-8. If it can handle the heat from a 9k rpm rotory, it can handle the VQ37. The 5w30 just has better protection/lubrication:p. Try going to a Nissan dealer and order the oil (5w30) from them. Just be prepared to pay a lot more for Ester Oil.

RX-8 had some oiling issue due to 5w20 being too thin. I would stay away from 5w20 if you do any hard use on it (especially with the oil temp being so high in the Z).

Thats how it was with my scion, never had an issue. But it also didnt get hot and rev is 6200 in that car EPIC FAIL:shakes head: TQ is what keeps that car competetive...back to the subject at hand

Thats what i was thinking about this car. The 5w20 may run too thin due to high temp and excesive driving. IMO, if you dont drive it hard all the time and dont go for a long distance you will be ok. If you drag the car and let it cool down after each run you should be ok...BUT......oild coolers will, and i firmly believe this, will allow you to run the 5w20 oil with no issues at all plus you can get the oil pan extentions (i dont know there proper name).:happydance: also it should be a good brand of oil, i roll with the moble 1 5w20....shoot it sponsors NASCAR cant be too bad of a brand.
