AWD anyone?

This is more of a dream and not very partical to do. But I just thought maybe someone has thought about it too.

Would it be possible to make the Z an AWD. I was thinking that modifying the g37x's setup to work with the Z. I'm not a machanic so tech is way beyond me. Just want a good topic to dicuss.

With enough time, money and resources al most anything is possible.

Jordo! 07-02-2010 10:46 PM

Eh... maybe. Assuming that the trans would fit the chassis without major modification, you'd also need the G37's ECU, as I'm sure power distribution is all electronically controlled.

Also, is it a particualrly good AWD? It's honestly probably not worth it unless you plan on adding major power upgrades (i.e., FI) to the equation too...

well JUN did it with the 350Z, and a G35Xs' drive train to my knowledge and twin turbo'd the thing. So it wouldn't be much difference to do our 370Z. And again a lot of time and money would be the only way possible, but worth it...

Brazilbro 07-03-2010 01:51 PM

Just get a 911 TT and call it a day..

Jordo! 07-03-2010 02:19 PM

It would certainly be worth doing if you were looking to build a Zed rally car... now that would be an interesting beast.

Zat_Zuma 07-03-2010 02:31 PM

yes, it's possible and it's a straight bolt in to the 370Z.

But you'll need the drivetrain from a G37x and the electronics to make it run. While your at it you, may as well TT to 1000 hp and have the GTR's chase you all day.

Since your spending mad money, you may as well purchase a GTR as your DD, while your at it, so the GTR owners don't get too mad at you.

I would do it but I need to win a major couple million lottery first, so I could afford it and pay someone else to do it. :roflpuke2:

Function Tuned out here in VA did it to a 350Z.

StealthZ 07-03-2010 03:02 PM

I forgot about that one.

That's a very good point... the cost of the car itself plus swap, tuning, turbo kit, and any unexpected issues that might crop up would bring you into the price range of a GT-R... meaning unless you REALLY loved the Z, it would be a lot less trouble to just get a GT-R.

That said... I've seen some crazy projects all for love of a particular car...

Check out this "7th gen" Celica built by Fensport :yum:
[Fensport UK]: Celica GT4 X

Speaking only for myself, I grew weary of building my Celica and dealing with a constant "make it faster" project, so I sold it and bought a Z.

Lemers 07-03-2010 06:03 PM

First you can likely find someone to order the parts without ripping apart a g37x.

Second there might even be a totaled one somewhere.

Third if it is straight bolt on and parts are availible it doesn't seem that more exspensive than some of the projects being talked about on here.

I personally would be a Slave to which ever shop thinks they could do it and they would charge me out the a$$. But it would be cool to have the only AWD Z around.

cossie1600 07-03-2010 07:59 PM

Isnt the G37x longer? You will need a minimum of a longer driveshaft, plus the bodymounts are probably different.

Anyway, it's retarded

Cjanik 07-04-2010 11:10 AM

if somebody does it...it will bring a lot of fame and attention to the person/shop.

so it wouldnt be all that bad of an idea if your the first to do it, the fame may return the $$ a couple times over if you sell car parts/services.

KaienZ34 07-04-2010 06:22 PM

Huge pain in the wallet !! That being said i think it would be cool as F@#K.
