7AT Drive Issue

So I was on my way to work today and as I went to get on to the onramp the power just dissapears, like I had just slipped it into neutral, all revs and no power. So I coast to the side of the road, put it into park, then drive and attempt to be on my way. Again, the same thing happens, like i was in neutral again. It just revs.
I shut the car off, thinking that it may be electronic. Once again, neutral and drive do the same thing. The odd thing is reverse still worked.

So I call AAA, get it towed to the dealer, and waited for a call.

Later in the day they called me and said they couldn't replicate the problem, and I can pick it up tomorrow.

Any 7AT owners have anything like this happen? An before it's asked, I'm sure that I didn't accidently hit it into neutral or anything like that, I made sure it was in the proper 'D' gate before retrying it. Manual mode wasn't working either.

I just hope this doesn't happen again right after I pick it up.

Weird?
I have had no issues here, sorry to hear about that.
Let us know if it appears again?

That's real odd. Seems like it may have been the shift selector on the transmission itself (since all of that's electronic - your shifter position doesn't really directly control the transmission solenoids).

Do our transmissions have a shift selector that has a hard link to the shifter, or does the shifter have an electronic gate system which completely electronically controls the transmission?

Either way, that could have been the point of failure. I would make the dealership do an extensive diagnostic before they hand the car back to you - they probably just think you're a moron, let them know you're not.

^^^ Agreed.

Haven't had that happen, but it demands further investigation.

New car, high tech trans, take it to the dealer for a detailed inspection.

EDIT: Interesting, an '09... I think the '09 ECU's might be a bit buggy...

I'm going to talk to them again before I pick it up tomorrow afternoon.

Any problem that "fixes" itself over the course of a ride on a tow truck is sure to pop up again at some point.

Well it's definitely a legitimate safety concern. If your transmission pulls this and you're unable to get out of a life-or-death situation, Nissan would clearly be at fault. Your dealership definitely needs to take you more seriously.

Never had that happen, but when in normal D it does down shift very hard form 3rd to 2nd and 2nd to 1st. When i'm coming to a stop sign and what not.

And that's why I love the 7at so much. :)

I own a G and not a Z but have the 7at. Have it checked, most definately. My tranny has been flawless thus far. But you never know, you may have one of those rare issues that are hard to find without a serious inspection.

I haven't had this happen on my 2010; but before buying - I had this happen on an on ramp during a test drive of a 2009 7AT. It was really strange...and a main reason why I waited to get a 2010. I can only imagine it has something to do w/ the ECU...

That sucks... Hope it gets fixed. FWIW, no problems with my AT7.

Fixed.
