Please help!!!

I was driving all day today and I just went to meet up with some friends in a parking lot near my house, then the car started to slow down as i was coming down the street and just turn off, I was able to push it into the parking lot. One of my friends is a mechanic and when we tried to start it after we let it cool down for a bit, it wouldnt start and it would only shake the engine a little bit and just stop.....is this the limp mode or is it something more serious, I can't call nissan right now because they are closed but I will call them tomorrow. I would appreciate any input you could give me.

This car only has 3300 miles and it got an oil change and full service at the dealer at 2700 miles

Fuel pump

bullitt5897 06-22-2010 09:32 PM

Yeah that sounds like a fuel issue!

FuszNissan 06-22-2010 09:55 PM

Is there a CEL?

limp mode only stops you from revving pass 3500 rpm and even then it doesn't shut the engine down. Did you fill-up the tank recently...could be water in the fuel line. Some bad gas stations in Jersey. I'm only bringing this up because my Uncle filled up his Xterra in Jersey at some no-name gas station and had similar issues.

Also, was the oil temp running hot? Above 250?

Not really TT'd I assume...? Then it could be a whole lotta different issues...

Without info on more symptoms, I'm thinking bad gas as well.

You were driving all day... Did you remember to put fuel in the tank. :)

It's not turbocharged and the car's ignition will try to start the car, but the engine will not start at all now. I'm going to try and solve the problem tomorrow by taking it to the dealership. I thought I siezed the engine initially or something and i only fill up with 93 octane at either BP or Shell gas stations so I don't think it is bad gas. The temperature was also only at 220-230 so I didn't think it could've been limp mode. Could the fuel pump really give in this easily on a new car?

Boost_lee 06-23-2010 12:30 AM

I'm leaning towards bad fuel, hopefully it wasn't bad enough to damage your pump. Even though you shop at BP/Shell, accidents do happen. Could be water in their tanks or a possible cross-drop.

When you filled up, were there any fuel trucks dropping fuel into the tanks at the station?

370z TT 06-23-2010 07:49 AM

There weren't any fuel trucks at BP from my last fill up, and I have never had a problem like this on a new car. Are these cars truly that sensitive to bad gas?

assuming you weren't under the hood or anything.

stock no mods

always fuel spark timing

and the guys always want to rule out fuel as a cause

you did say it tries to start

sub'd

I went to the dealership and they said it had something to do with the fuel pump and it is covered under warranty, so I'm happy, but how do you break a fuel pump because I'e never let the car go under a 1/4 tank?

Cmike2780 06-23-2010 11:54 AM

If it was the fuel pump, it was most likely defective and not your fault. Especially with 3500 miles on the odo.

I nailed it.... lol :roflpuke2:
