Now running Ester Oil

After 2600 miles, I decided to change the factory oil. I put my Z up on my new Race Ramps, and thanks to AK's precise instructions, I successfully dumped the oil that came in my Z and replaced it with Ester oil.

I kept close watch on oil consumption from the beginning, and all I had to add was about 4 ounces, and that was only one time during the break-in period after about 700 miles. Let's see how that compares with the Ester oil.

The 370Z comes with 5W30 Nissan Ester Oil from the factory I thought.

Nope, it comes with regular motor oil.

Did we really have to make another Oil thread? this has been Beaten to Death and has resulted in Locked oil Threads!!!!... Your killing me Smalls.... lol

Can someone please solve this debate? Is 5W30 Nissan genuine Ester Oil factory fill or not?

I was skimming through the other 23 and some odd page thread on engine oil and several people said it comes with the Ester from the factory. I have 1300 miles on my 09 Nismo and had to add 2/3 of a quart the other day during break-in. I added the genuine Nissan Ester Oil. I thought that was in it to begin with. If it's not, will the Ester oil I added do any harm?

It won't do any harm. I don't think factory fill is ester. Because ester oil is ONLY recommended NOT required. Manual says ANY 5W30 will do the job.

Thank You.

I would guess that the factory fill is the Nissan ester because of the valve noise in the G37. One of the remedies was switching to Nissan ester.

Yes on early model G37s. If I recall correctly, Nissan fixed it for the late model G37s and all 370Zs. Nogoodname should chime in about it.

No, the factory fill is not Nissan ester oil - Nissan recommends that dealers change a 370Z's fill to the ester oil if there is excessive drive train noise. Last time I was at my dealer (a few months ago), that was still the case according to them (they said that the factory fill is still a regular 5W30 non-ester oil).

Okay. I talked to my friend who recently sold his 370Z and he said the same thing. That it comes with regular 5W30 and that you have to ask for the Ester oil if you want it.
