My VQ37 gets clean bill of health from Blackstone lab! WOOT (Redline Synthetic Oil)

Well, I'm sure many of you guys know that I have been running Redline Synthetic Oil from 3600 miles on my Z. Well, last week, I have just turned over 19,000 miles (19,275 to be exact). I did oil analysis for EVERY Redline Oil changes from Blackstone Laboratory.

Take a look at the very last oil report:

I don't usually share the oil reports because every driver is different. Each oil report will be different due to the driving condition, weather, driving habit (of the driver), roads being driven on, etc etc. But you should def do the analysis for your OWN guidance. These guys will guide you perfectly when to do next oil change. In the beginning, they actually asked me to keep it in 5xxx miles and now as you can see, they want me to go upto 7000 miles! The testing costs about $22 (and I usually ship via USPS Priority or UPS for quicker shipment).

Also, during my previous oil change (at 14,xxx miles), I used the Purolator Pure 1 filter and looks like it did a great job. Heck, I even did 4 dyno pulls two weeks ago, back to back with dirty oil/pure1 filter!

This time (however) I used the K&N HP-1008 (due to some leftover filters in my garage) and it'll be interesting to see how well this filter does against Purolator Pure1. The pressures on K&N now ;).

As for getting oil samples, I usually take the undercover shroud off first. Then go for a very spirited drive :driving: Bring my oil temp to about 220 - 225 F. Then, put the car on ramp and get the sample from the middle (not the begining oil. Wait about 5-7 seconds). Here's their official oil sampling guideline: Gas Sampling

I very happy the way they guided me and glad that my VQ is in good shape. Now, time for me to go out and do some powerslides! :driving:

AK - Are you planning to switch to the HP-1010 K&N? It would be the same length as the P1 PL14610, wouldn't it?

Very cool, AK.

My change is up soon too. Perhaps I'll send BS another sample to see how my copper level is doing.

No, I'm going to stay with Purolator Puro1. Why? because
  • It's VERY easy to get. My local PepBoys has them on their shelf.
  • Half the price (compare to K&N)
  • Does it's job (if not better than K&N).

Now, I wasn't aware of the larger K&N HP-1010. Is that what you use? feel free to send me some picture/review so that I can add to the "oil change" thread. How do you like it?

They looks to be identical. Are they more expansive than 1008?

Yup, def. How's your oil issue? I know you had a little problem. Pm me if you like.
