New short throw shifter for the 370!

So I had a prototype short shifter installed in my 370Z this week at TWMPerformance and I must say this is a great modification to the car!

The prototype installed is the final version of the short shifter they willput in to production. It reduces the throw by about 40% and the height by about 0.25 inch. I drove the car for only 150 miles since the installed and the throw is just perfect like this. No rattles at any RPMs.Very short yet smooth and easy to engage gears. Definitely adds to the fun factor of the car! I currently only have one picture taken at the shop to show the shifter installed (with OEM nob).

So far i can say that this mod is my #2 favorite (after my CBE) and has a great ROI (return on investment) that you can start to enjoy as soon as you engage 1st gear!!!

Does anything need to be filed down in order to get into reverse?

Sounds nice

Silly physics question. How can a reduction in height of 1/4" reduce throw by 40%?

I knew you would like it...haha

Nick,
Not really, absolutely noting needs to be filed down or grinded to install this short shifter, it's a direct replacement of the stock shifter!

I was told that most of the throw reduction is coming from the relocated pivot points in the bottom portion of the shifter under the center console, not from the height reduction itself.

Up to 40% is talking about the height into certain gears. Namely: 1st, 2nd, 5th, 6th. 3rd and 4th gear would be less.

I may have to indulge myself with this, besides, it would hopefully get rid of my slight 6th gear rattle.

Great looking product! I might have to check it out. I had a TWM Performance short shifter on my old EvoX and it was incredible. I didn't know that they made one for the 370Z. Thanks for the info. I'll be giving them a call this week for sure.

I just ordered one myself, they are supposedly shipping out in 3 weeks with pre-ordered being the first to ship.

Idk if it was the picture but it really does look like the shift knob height is lowered alot. You should put a review of it up, any difficulty putting it into 6th/reverse, etc...? I had a TWM short shifter kit for my 07 Civic SI and it did improve, but for the SI it was just a tiny piece that was switched out. Not sure whats involved with the 370Z. Would you rate the TWM over the AMS short shifter?

Looks Nice

this is tempting...going on my list for sure.

Jon,

I ran over 600km on since last Wednesday. So far i didn't notice change in the SS behaviour while shifting (whatever the RPM range). As far as the lowering, as said before it's about 0,25' below stock. I will try to get some pics of a new nob this week-end.

For any comparison from TWN vs AMS, i cannot state since, i never tried the AMS on my car...

As for the reverse or 6th gear engagement, no issues at all. However, i must say that it took me a couple of days to get use to the SS "mechanical feel" when shifting (had the same learning curve on my previous SS install...).

Here's a pic of the throw improvement (3rd to 4th gear).

Anyone else pick this up yet? Would you also happen to have any comments on the TWM shift knob? Thinking of getting their M1 Abrams at the same time.
