Cruise control not working.

Today on the way home the cruise control stopped working. I did a search here but could not find any posts nor can I find a service bulletin. Tomorrow I am making an appointment with the dealer but was wondering if anyone here has had the cruise control stop working. If so what did the dealer do to fix it? Thanks.

Could be a fuse or one of the bazillion relays in the car. Happened to my 300ZX back in the day. And now that I think of it, just about anything electrical that stopped working ended up being a fuse or relay.

I don't want to ask a dumb question, but how fast were you going? I just ask because I know you have to be going faster than like, 15 or 20.

How many miles do you have on the car? I know they check cruise control
at your 15k/12 month service. Warranty issue obviously

I was going to ask, but about the possibility of him going too fast. I think the range is between 20-90mph.

Does the green "Cruise" light come on when you turn it on? Does the "accel" button work at all? Does it just not let you "set" a speed?

i wonder why they would set the limit so high considering most highways in the US have a 65mph limit?

edit: its not that high but idk im tired and just typing whatever i think... kinda like now

Just like why do they make cars that go 2-4 times the highest speed limits in the country?

If we couldn't speed, the cops wouldn't make money. If the cops can't make money, there would be less officers. I assume you can figure out the rest of this domino effect.

We've had at least one member get upset that he couldn't "cruise" at 100+ mph.

Hi guys, thanks for the responses. I have less than 7K miles on the car, I have read my owners manual and I did re-check it yesterday. At the time the cruise control stopped working I was cruising at 65 mph in the Florida's Turnpike south of Fort Lauderdale. I since tried to set it at 40, 50, 60, and 70 but it is not working. I have an appointment tomorrow (Friday, 5/14/10) at the dealer. will keep you posted.

PapoZalsa 05-13-2010 09:09 PM

I haven't even tried mine yet, will see this coming week going down to Zday.

quadsbaby 05-13-2010 11:21 PM

There are some highways in the US with speed limits of 80 MPH and plenty with speed limits of 75.

Well the cruise control on the steering wheel is damaged/broken and it is being replaced under warranty. The dealer has ordered the part and it should be here by the middle of next week. While at the dealer they tightened the drivers seat anchor bolts and it makes much less noises (when I move).

Glad they found the problem!

The steering wheel cruise control parts arrived yesterday (May 20th of 2010) and today the dealer (Maroone Nissan) installed them. The cruise control is working, oh yeah baby!

Did your crusie control light (Green light on the dash) blink at you with this problem? Mine is blinking at me and the cruise will not work.

Thanks
Don

Well, the problem is back! I have made an appointment for 8/31 to have the Nissan dealer look into it. Again ...

Ive cruised in an Audi at 190+kph hour here in Germany. I dont see a problem with that at all. Do you? Safe high speed driving is possible proven daily here.

Hi guys, I'm new here since I got this baby for a few days. I bought this car used from a Nissan center in Dingofild-Germany. Everything was OK until I discovered that I got the problem with my cruise control. Actually, it does goes on/off on the steering wheel button and green light is ON, but when I tried to set/resume the speed it doesn't work, nothing happens. I've tried with 101 rule (resetting the ECU) over disconnecting the battery, but also nothing, the problem still persists.
Looks like Z's has some issues with this thing and hoping that someone will find a proper solution for DIY fix.

Im currently working on a project with an autogroup and they seem to have a nice Nissan shop with good master techs that have been there for years.

Im having the same issue with my cruise control, and I got the recall letter in the mail for the steering lock as well. Im going to have them check out my issues.

We were re-doing all their Nissan ASIST/Consult III PCs in the shop this week, so techs were pretty happy with the diagnostic tools working correctly. Service manager said it was cool if I stuck around when I drop my Z off and hang in the shop and go over anything with the tech while Im in the shop.

I'll let you guys know whats up when I drop it off on Sunday night.

You know what guys. I spoke too soon and I thought this might have been the case.

I replaced my fob batteries the same day I did adjustments on my RJM clutch pedal. I'd notice when I drive that I'd get the orange key light and cruise not working. One day while driving I put my foot under the clutch pedal and pushed it up and the light went away. I drove on the highway to test if the cruise was the same thing cause Iam more than positive that top switch has to do with position to allow cruise to work. I hit cruise normally and set, nothing no cruise. Solid green light but not setting the cruise. Turned off cruise, did it again with my foot under the pedal and pressing it upward and the cruise control worked.

Got in the driveway this morning looked under the dash and that's exactly what happened, the top button was barely making contact. Did the adjustments, took it out for a spin and cruise control was working. I barely ever drive the car since I got another car for work, so I would've spotted this sooner if the Z was my DD.

Anyways just wanted to share, thanks!

Any way you can post a little more info on this?
What adjustments need to be done? etc...

I have the same problem and I just got my car 2 weeks ago... Took a 10 hour trip and my leg was numb from not being able to set the cruise... LOL
