Z now chirps tires going to second gear
I switched from using Nissan Ester Oil to Pennzoil Ultra Synthetic. I noticed an immediate SOTP difference in the torque when in 1st gear. The car now chirps the wheels when going from 1st to 2nd gear. Never did that before....Never thought the Z ever could do that since it isn't really a torque monster by any stretch of the imagination.
I knew that Nissan Ester Oil lubrication capacity would have dampened the torque somewhat but I am surprised that the dampering was substatial enough to actually notice the difference when I switched to full synth. Switching to full synth must have given me back at least 5 to 7 ft-lbs of low-end TQ to be able to notice it that much and chirp to 2nd!. :happydance: |
i thot someone chirped 4th on this site

Pretty easy here in CT to chirp going from 1st-2nd. Nissan Ester Oil in the engine btw.
Butt Dyno FTW! |
I've gotten my VDC light to flash shifting into 4th, but never payed enough attention to know if I actually chirped or not.
My 2nd gear doesn't really chirp, it's more like a nice healthy mini burnout  |
mine used to burnout in 2nd gear but i put the 315s on the back now it just grabs and goes

Here is his video, apparently it was due to poor track conditions. |
I've gotten it to chirp going into 3rd plenty of times.
 |
Yeah If I drop the clutch into 3rd I can get chirp, but if you're chirping you're going slower. :)

How many miles do you have on your car when you changed your oil. I have 1900 miles on my car and changed my oil at 1600miles. Just noticed that the car seems drive stronger, but of course that could also mean Im not holding back now that I got my 1st oil change out of the way and Im driving the car like it was meant to be.... :icon18: |
my bone stock touring Z chirps all the way into 3rd gear. are you granny shifting or something?
|
I have no problem chirping in second with my 7AT
|
Me:
RAWR 1st RAWR 2nd RA-meow 3rd 7AT The colder it gets the more 3rd turns to a RAWR. I've busted loose in 3rd going into 4th a couple of times...enough to kick the butt sideways a tiny bit on a straight road. |

Well of course you dont lol - its much shorter gearing :)

The engine has less internal friction to overcome when using synthetics which acts to free up HP and TQ that is being lost to overcome the engines internal friction compared to natural oil. |
I can chirp 3rd all day long.
|
I can chirp 6th gear all day long..
|
I can chirp in reverse
|
I can make a 115 hp Civic Chirp 2 gear; chirping a gear doesn't by default mean the car is produces more torque. Just letting the clutch out too quickly can cause a chirp (it's not good for the drivetrain but it works). Use the same DYNO and do before and after runs if you want to see roughly how much more power you're making.

What kind of tires do you have?
What is the temperature? What is the tire pressure? Auto or manual? Is it wet or dry outside? Are the tires warm? All factors that play into "chirping" tires on shifts. If it were on the stock tires and it were 30ºF outside, I can chirp 4th. I can always chirp 2nd. If the cards are right, I can chirp 3rd. The biggest influence on how well you can chirp tires are factors other than the power going to the tires. Always gotta think about how much traction you have between the tires and the road. HAHA. Did you guys know you could spin second in a Auto 2.5 Altima?? Seems very bad on the tranny but if you "manually" shift it into second it spins LOL. Never thought this would be a problem in a 332HP Z. Every video on line shows the Z spinning 2nd when they do a 0-60 or 1/4 mile.

YouTube - Snakes709's Channel Launch was horrible cuz of the track prep, cars were breaking down all night, spilling coolant and oil. However, by the time im going from 3rd-4th im off the prepped part of the track. Also i havent used the bottle yet, got everything all set up, just waiting for my AP to come in. |
I chirp second completely stock all the time.
|
wow,...does it really matter?
lol... |
