Just Drained my oil, wheres the oil?

so this is the 3rd time im changing my oil, but this time i drained maybe only 3 1/2-4 quarts out? i filled it with 5 1/2 of Mobil Full Syn. exactly 5,000 mi. ago. No leaks, no harsh driving. The only thing i can think of is it just burned up real fast for some reason, or Mobil 1 had a bad batch idk.
please help!

P.s. i filled up this time on Redline.:stirthepot:

You need to be checking your oil more frequently......

1 qt per 3300 miles is just fine BTW.....

azn370z 05-07-2010 03:07 PM

I believe you're supposed to put in 5 1/8 quarts.

zilent_jay 05-07-2010 05:03 PM

Where's the oil?

That's the million dollar question a lot of g37/370z owners are asking.

I had my long block replaced @ 17k miles last week due to excessive oil consumption. The problem seemed to get worse as time went by.

Keep a close eye on your oil levels.

Just Drained my oil, wheres the oil?

You are draining your oil too much, stop for awhile and let it build back up.

Besides your gonna go blind.

Hey Modshack is this really considered normal? When I first got my car Jan. 2010 the oil level was down about 1/8. Now at 2200 miles its down a full 1/2 Qt. The service advisors say it shouldn't burn any oil. BTW my car was assembled in Jan. of 09. during the course of a year it only aquired 350 miles until I bought it. I'm getting ready for the first oil change:ugh2:

The car is going to make you put oil in more than us cuz you cheated your county on taxes and make up the money that way. Karma.

Check oil levels frequently. In the manual it should tell you how to interpret the dipstick readings so you'll know if you actually need to add oil or not.

These engines do burn some oil. In some cases it is significant and requires the attention of the service department but in most cases it doesn't.... this is why owner's need to keep a close eye on this.

My car burned a bit of oil (up to a full quart in 4000 miles) when new, but as the car has broken in there is no material oil burn.

Hopefully not in a unchanged oil filter!

:D

These cars are known to burn oil.. i burn about 1/2 a quart a month or more depending on how much I drive.

NYBladeZ 05-10-2010 08:51 AM

hopefully once I get an oil cooler on this problem will be solved along with the high oil temps.

FuszNissan 05-10-2010 08:54 AM

Every since I lost my first engine, I check my oil every gas fill up

How is an oil cooler going to make a difference in the amount of oil your engine burns? :shakes head:

Your service advisor is an idiot. Most cars will burn some oil during the break in period and even after. This could last to 10K miles in some cases. Internal combustion engines use oil, period. When it gets to a quart per 1000 miles or less you need to worry (and Nissan will likely do something about it)....Relax.

alcorrea 08-09-2010 03:35 PM

My car is burning 2 quarts every 3,000 miles I hope nissan will do something about it

Prosport Gauges 08-10-2010 10:54 AM

Just dont ask any suby guys about burning oil, they might punch you in the face!

Nope....When you get down to a quart per thousand or less go talk to them. Unlikely this will happen though..

sonic370 08-10-2010 07:26 PM

knock on wood i've had two oil changes i'm at 6200 miles and haven't had to add any oil at all. but i do drive normal i don't even think its been redlined yet.
i guess i drive like an old lady! but look good doing it.

+1000000000000

I know from experience!

Mike 08-10-2010 07:54 PM

yep, quart per thousand is the magic number. I had the 350 engine changed under warranty when it went to a quart every 600. Had 50% leakage in one cylinder, and 35% in 3 others.

Same here. After three oil changes I've never had to add a drop of oil. Started using Redline at 4k miles. Changed the oil at 9k miles and the oil level had barely dropped on the dipstick. So it burned maybe half a pint in 5000 miles. I still check it every couple weeks to be safe. I don't track the car but don't baby it either.

:iagree: with Modshack. Also during break in period, it's normal to burn a little oil.

I religiously check my oil EVERY 2 weeks. After owning sport cars from various different makes and model, it has actually became a habit of mine. If you think you guys have it worse, ask any BMW owners. Those cars burns oil like crazy.
