7AT rev delay?

I have been noticing this thing since a few days ago.

It happens most in 4th gear.

So lets say im in 4th manual and 2500 RPM

I go WOT

the revs fly up to 3500+

and then they slowly drop while the car is speeding up and then they go up again but right this time.

It is pretty odd to see the revs go up, down and then up again.

It feels like its lagging or something like that

Jeffblue 04-27-2010 02:52 PM

that sounds like CVT to me

DjSquall 04-27-2010 03:25 PM

I think it may be the VDC kicking in. This baby can still squeal in 4th gear from what I've heard. Try turning VDC off (do this at your own risk!) and try again?

WHAT IS WOT?!!!!! I see it everywhere

shoopajae10 04-27-2010 03:50 PM

means your throttle is like AHHHHHHHHH

Don't have an AT, but probably normal....Torque converter slips than gradually engages til it locks up. A torque converter is basically a viscous clutch

but unlike a viscous limited slip differential, which has about 60,000 miles of good use for spirited driving and track use, the torque converter doesn't have any...

I KID :p

but yea the VDC makes sense as the culprit.

Vegitto-kun 04-27-2010 05:06 PM

it isn't the VDC, no VDC light or anything

This is what happens to me when in auto mode and going either WOT or PT (Partial Throttle). The auto will slip into gear almost like riding (Slipping) the clutch in a manual. But when in Manual mode its a complete different car. Shifts are hard and snappy almost immediately locks the gear you’re asking for on downshifts.

But I have noticed the car bucks more when downshifting from 4th to 3rd or up shifting from 3rd to 4th. There is such a big difference between these two gears, 3rd is short like 1st and 2nd but 4th is much longer like 5th. The only time I drive in auto mode is when the wife is in the car with me. I have about 25,000 miles on my Z and about 90% time in manual mode. I absolutely love this transmission I don’t think I can go back to a Stick after owning this 7AT with the paddles!

I would go manual if I can but I have to agree, the manual mode sure is harsh, which is so awesome when going WOT

I love how slams into next gear, some people might whine its uncomfortable but it feels so right on a high powered car

what are you doing with a 7AT, noone in Europe drives an automatic!!!!
