Nissan Ester Oil Analysis by Blackstone Labs
 

Just got this back from Blackstone. Lets see what happens with my next oil change since I switched to Redline at 2300 miles.

Does someone who knows how to read this wanna chime in and say if his numbers are good/bad? Or explain how to compare it?


Anyone ever done this with Royal Purple 5w30?

The levels look OK for a new engine which, is what they said. Would be interesting to see the TBN but with less then then 1400 miles the oil should hold its additives. Will be interesting to watch over time which is the only way to really follow the reports. Changing the oil will not tell you about the Ester oil but will be interesting to follow and see how the engine breaks in with the new oil.

Will never really know unless you try it out and actually run all of the tests and see what are the results in hot and cold weather's

Speaking of which is there such thing as 100% synthetic motor oil ?

Understanding oil is a complex issue. I believe true PAO synthetics are 100% non dino oil if that is what you are asking. This would include some upper tier 111, IV and above oils however, not all "upper" oils may be 100%. Different base stocks are also used. If you want to get into the break downs of each oil, I would go to bobistheoilguy and read a few of the posts. You will find more then you want about base stocks and their composition. Given its' complexity, oil needs it own forum at times..
