Mods for My New Z
 

Ordered a '10 370Z...6spd manual. Should be here by June 15th. Was thinking of getting cat back and hi-flow intake right away. Looking at NISMO cat back, Stillen catback and HKS catback...any suggestions?? Looking specifically at Stillen Gen 3 hi-flow intake. Does anyone have these mods on their Zs?

Any other mod suggestions?

Don't get the Nismo catback, minimal to no gains, I'd take the HKS over Stillen but I recommend F.I. even though there may be a wait.

I'd second the Fast Intentions catback for a coupe and also steer you away from the NISMO. The FI has the sound and HP+ you want, plus it looks very nice -- especially in its price range. I got a GReddy Spectrum Elite for my roadster, because I wanted a slightly more refined sound (my opinion) and lower volume for the open-air car. HP increase was secondary to me, though it does feel like I picked up a few more HP than I counted on with these pipes. It's personal preference and FI does offer options to change volume levels a bit, so you can probably find exactly what you want for a coupe with that setup.

The NISMO is all about the name. The sound levels and HP increase are nearly negligible. The look is nearly stock. And to top it all off, it's fairly expensive. Honestly, I don't think it's a great value at all. The Stillen catback was presented to me as a reasonably good value for the money, with others like the HKS listed as "better quality" options at pricing comparable to the NISMO, or slightly less.

The Stillen G3 or Injen intake will be your best bet on the intake end -- consensus is that they deliver the best performance.

May I also suggest a B&M short shifter? It's under $200 and easy to install. It's the shifter this car was meant to have.

yeah dont go nismo thats alot of cash for nothing IMO also look into getting HFC they will increase sound and give you a good amount of HP

I'll add to stay away from changing the stock headers with short-tube headers, from personal experience. They are a b*tch to install and they don't give you much in terms of power.
However, F.I. got some nice gains from long-tube headers and I believe they don't throw a CEL.

As far as suspension (don't know if you are looking at it), I would stiffen the chassis a bit. GT-Spec makes a pretty good 4-point brace and rear lower brace.
Maybe add front and rear sways (Stillen for DD or Hotchkis if you track).

Im not sure why people would shy away from Stillen cat back. Yes FI looks better IMO however if you plan on lowering your car, the FI system does not have the clearance that the Stillen catbacks do. Performance wise, i have yet to see the dyno of FI vs Stillen CBE on the same car, but my guess would be that it would come out fairly close in terms of HP gained.

Good luck with your decision, Stillen and FI are great setups, im sure there are more how ever these two have been proven to sound good and perform good as well.

Stillen CBE, Gen 3's and Berk HFC

Stillen is hit or miss on fitament, F.I. is the least restrictive CBE, that's why everyone has them, however there is truth to the it rides low statement. I'd wait on the intakes, they only produce power above 7000. Most significant gains were seen before exhaust work, once exhaust work is done there aren't significant gains from intakes.

What about the ARC exhausts? I spoke to Eric at Driveline and he seemed to really push that and the Stillen. Thx for the feedback!

Hey guys, If i only want to gain a little more sound but don't want it too loud, can I just buy HFC and intakes without buying the whole catback ??

I would recommend the Fast Intentions exhaust. Ask for Tony at Fast Intentions, he's the owner and deals with all Nissan/Infiniti inquiries. He's the best when it comes to customer service. I'm getting my Fast Intentions exhaust installed tomorrow with 12 inch resonators and carbon fiber mufflers. How awesome are carbon fiber mufflers! Stay tuned for review, pics and video.

Wait on the intake. The stock intake is pretty good.

Fast Intentions also offers test pipes, HFCs, and long tube headers. I hope to be getting my fast intentions long tube headers in the next couple months! :tup:

I have the F.I. exhaust, 18" resonators, completely satisfied. It's not too loud during normal driving, you only really hear it pick up at around 5000 rpms. So, that would be my suggestion to you. Don't forgo getting the gains a catback will give you because of sound. Just look at quieter exhaust options, like the F.I. exhaust with 18" resonators (as opposed to the 12" resonators).
