very loud clutch chatter when in first gear and i depress the clutch...
so i have 350 miles on my z now, and i am noticing this noise a lot more. when i am slowing driving in first gear (like when i am pulling into my garage) and i depress the clutch, the car makes a very loud chattering/banging noise and it is quite annoying. it happened a few times when i was in stop/go traffic today as well. is this the normal chatter that you guys talk about, or do i need to make a trip to the dealership?

Sounds like you're waiting too long to depress the clutch... TRy depressing and slipping it a bit when you're at very slow speeds..

i am pretty sure mine does not make any noise, let alone a loud one. sounds like you need to have the dealer check it out.
|
My Z has made that noise from day one. I now have 10,600km on the car and its still doing it but still going strong.
|
This is normal nothing to worry about. From porsches to corvetts they all have chatter and make noises when oulling out of first and in neutral
|
Got it here too.

the noise happens when i am slowly rolling into my garage in first gear and when i push in the clutch as i am coming inside, the chatter/banging noise happens right then. so slipping the clutch at that time didn't make sense to me... |

I believe this is normal. I have a similar situation with my car too. When I depress the clutch, sometimes, I feel a slight tapping. Are you having a similar situation?
|
These cars are known for this, the 350 as well. I can make my clutch make that loud chatter "if" I slam it to the floor too fast. You learn the smooth motion that is necessary to avoid the chatter. Mine never chatters, "but", I can make it do it everytime "if" I don't work it properly. Same thing Mod said, "You don't slip it, you disengage it"

so it seems that this is normal if you disengage the clutch too quickly... but, what exactly is the issue that causes the noise?
|
Also, I notice it happens a lot after the car is warmed up. It happens everytime I'm parking the car into my garage (incline). Not sure what cause's the noise though.

Maybe you'll figure it out.....Others apparently have. Good luck ! |
I have found that I get a banging noise if I am in first and fully let off the gas and coast a couple seconds, then disengage the clutch, but if instead as soon as I get off the gas I disengage the clutch, it typically doesnt make the noise.

Jake man dont worry, I have the same chatter if I slam the clutch just like Antennahead suggested earlier. But if you dissengage the clutch slowly and in control, you'll be fine. You have to ease it in like a gentleman. You cant just ram it home. |
I get the same chatter in 1st… disengaging the clutch slower typically does the trick.

Mine does it as have other cars I've owned. The loudest was an '89 VW Corrado SLC. Usually you won't hear it unless you've got a nice acoustic reflector near the car (garage walls, nearby vehicles) and your window open.

So earlier I started my car, depressed the clutch to go into reverse and the sound was present. It happens randomly really which is strange. I also notice that if the sound is present, I can put my car in neutral, rev to about 3k rpm, and the sound/vibration disappears when I depress the clutch. Strange, I know. :-\

I have 08 350Z mt, and I'm experiencing the same problem.
I heard a louder sound after I shifted 1st gear to N and released the clutch. While in N, if I released the clutch, then I'd hear a quieter chattering sound. I'll try to release the clutch slower to see if the chattering will go away. Thanks for the info. |
OMG some of you act like you have never had to slip the clutch in a hurry! Some people sure make this board and unpleasent place to get answers from.
The answer is YES chatter is normal! Not just our cars, alot of cars do, the GT3 RS has such loud chatter some say it is like nails on a chalkboard. Having to some time slip the clutch in first is also normal to all you professional drivers we seem to have in this thread. |
worst clutch ever
