I see it this way. If not using Nissan Ester Oil really was a problem, Nissan would say it was REQUIRED in the manual. It's merely recommended. There is no voiding of your warranty if you don't use it. If you buy into the 'tiny, diamond nano-particles interact with the engine surfaces" description, go for it. As I see it, oil is a substance that lubricates and all of them do it. Synthetic oils are excellent, Redline has esters, and my car is still running like a banshee. Nissan isn't sucking me into the ester scheme and getting me to pay $11/quart every 3k miles. During my first oil change at the dealer (my last oil change there too), they actually put crappy Valvoline in the car. I made them drain it, find Nissan Ester Oil, and refill the car. Once I hit 5000 miles, bye bye NEO and hello Redline.

Redline is ester-based. Nissan's is dino-based w/ ester additives.

Has NIZMOZ ever not caused controversy in a forum. For God sake, he doesn't even have a 370Z.

In other news, their ester is recommended but not required. And Redline is ester based in the first place so it shouldn't be an issue at all. If anything it should be better.

Ester based oils tend to have issues with moisture absorbtion. Sometimes a PAO oil with Ester additives is better.

I think people have a right to post their opinions.

And when do you not stop whining?

LOL. That's why we love you.

It has been proven already by dozens of people in here that the car runs fine without using nissan's $12/qt magical ester based potion. I'm switching to redline on friday. Early oil change since the dealership apparently couldn't figure out how to tighten a damn oil filter.

"How many Nissan mechanics does it take to screw in an oil filter?"

I take it you don't buy into it :stirthepot: yes all nanotechnology is just BS, if you can't see it how can it exist.

Let us know if you hear an increase in valvetrain noise or not

I love it how everyone dismisses nanoparticles as hype but then they all suck on the Redline hype like a swollen titty. Will Redline perform better than Mobil1? Amsoil? Meh.

LOL, my dealer didn't push Ester at me at all, the service mgr said "just use regular 5W-30". I told him I'll be using the Ester and he said, yeah, it's good oil. :ugh2:

Well, I didn't choose Redline because of any hype. It's synthetic, ester-based, and more readily available than Amsoil. I've been using Mobile 1 in my wife's car and figure I'd use that in the Z as well if I ever had trouble ordering Redline.

As for swollen titties, sure I'll suck'em :)

Didn't Nissan develop their oil specifically to eliminate VVEL noise?

Mobil1 ftw! I use it in everything from my lawnmower to my other vehicles, including my motorcycles. If I add up total mileage on my other 3 vehicles, I come up with approx 400,000 miles with no internal engine issues (knock wood).

edit: and that is the standard Mobil1 I buy at Costco.

av370 02-14-2010 09:22 PM

I bought the mantaince program when I got my Z and they didnt realize the "motor oil"fiasico, the service writer said I made out like a bandit.

I always used Mobil 1 in my 350Z. When I took it to the Nissan dealer he told me synthetic would hurt my engine. I needed to use regular oil. That was strange because I thought synthetic was the best for modern performance engines. It is standard for many high end sports cars for a reason.

Synthetic will hurt your engine? Really? :bowrofl: :roflpuke2:

You need to get your car serviced somewhere else...
