Advice needed for differential install
Hey guys,
Just had my differential rebuilt with new 4.08 gears, seals and bearings on my track 370Z because of the loud whining/howling noise during acceleration most likely due to the overheating of the ring gears on the track without a diff cooler. Now I have everything installed with diff cooler but after a few nice QUIET track days, the noise came back! (Diff cooler has been working fine cooling the temp down) Now I’ve been told another rebuild is necessary with all new gears and parts again as a proper backlash or other adjustments will be needed for a track abuse diff. Can anyone advice why the noise came back and do I really need to get new gears seals and bearings again ? Thanks |
What diff? Some diffs are loud without the proper lube, like the OS Giken.

What was the backlash? Did you check the toe pattern? Sounds like the pinion depth isn't right.

Need to check with my mechanic about the backlash but he did make sure the pattern is correct. It was nice and quiet after the installation for about 600km though. My concern is could this be fixed by readjusting it or I really need to get new pinion gears again.

You won't know until you tear it apart.
