Gear Lube in CV to Differential Flnage

Just finished pulling the diff for bushing replacement. Upon splitting the CV axle to differential flange (6 bolt) about 1/4 oz. came out of each. :shakes head: There was zero sign of leakage prior to disassembly. I've watched some videos on differential pulling and that connection was dry in all cases.

I assume the repair is made from the inside so I might as well do a new LSD at the same time.

What type of facility is best suited for said work?

In in the S. Florida area if anyone can recommend a shop.

Thanks for any insight you can lend. :tiphat:

Not sure what you are talking about. If you are saying some gear lube ran out when you took the stub axle out, that is normal.

The inside of the connection on the diff side (cup shaped) is wet as is the flat CV axle portion it bolts to.

Inside the CV joint itself? There is grease in there, usually it's not liquid.

1 Attachment(s)
Inside the bolted connection.

That wouldn't raise a red flag to me.

Feeling like since it's out it should be fixed but not sure of what that would entail nor where to bring it.

Is the hole in the middle all the way through the shaft? If so, it either was overfilled or got hot and puked it in there. I would suggest a diff cooler if the hole is all the way through the shaft.

That is sofa king weird the lube is in there and the hole doesn't go through the axle stub. Maybe someone lubed them for easy removal.

I assume you mean is there a hole all the way through the CV shaft?

No hole in the CV Shaft side only what appears to be a hole at the back against the differential side of the flange all the way inside the "cup" that can be seen in the pic I posted above.

No, in the stub axle.

Yes there's a hole in the stub as evidenced by the picture. I figure that's where the lube is coming through and should be addressed. :ugh2:

It was either over filled or it over heated. A diff cooler is in your future if you are a track rat.

Zero tracking with it. I fill and let it run out of the fill hole while level until is stops.

i have never seen a hole straight through the stub shaft.. usualy there is a little divot from the centerdrill used for machining but it shouldn't go all the way through? i would be tempted to say it is a defect but nissan might have changed it. it we be a really stupid place to put a vent holeas none of that area is sealed. i would be tempted to say someone lubed it for easy dissassembly. check to see if the hole goes all the through the stub flange if it does i would check with a dealer to see if they made a change to it and if not get a new stub flange.
