2010 370z Carpet Soaked
 

Just picked up a 2010 370z. Approx 38k miles. Went to clean it this weekend and under the passenger seat was soaked. I pulled the carpet and checked the AC line to make sure it wasnt clogged and it didnt seem to be. The liquid was somewhat oily and felt odd on the hands almost like antifreeze. Any suggestions as to what this could be, or where it could have come from?

Under the hood, by the battery. There is a big rubber gromet that the wiring harness goes through. It's been known to leak.

Thanks, I checked that and it seems to be dry. Don't see any signs of it being wet in between the blades or where it contacts the firewall. Weird.

IIRC, a few people have developed a leak at the B pillar finisher mounting hole(s). A wet shoulder belt is sometimes reported.

Did you check the cabin air filter for signs of wetness? That's the only other place in that location, besides the grommet, that could leak through the firewall.

No I did not check the cabin air filter, but I will check that this evening!

What could potentially cause the cabin filter to be wet/leaking?

Isn't the ac vent line right there too? If it's oily and you soak a paper towel in it is it green or blue? If so could be a cracked heater core

No idea, unless your engine bay plastics are misaligned and rainwater or car wash water is leaking on it?

I'm just pretty sure that that and the grommet are the only two ways through the firewall on the passenger side.

I originally thought it was the heater core.

I soaked it up with paper towel and the liquid was clear.

The top cowl on the passenger side prevents outside water from coming in the cabin. It may be worth double checking that it is aligned and seated properly.

So after awhile of trying to diagnose where the leak is coming from, the only possible thing I can think of is the heater core.

It took about 2 weeks or so for the fluid to build back up. The odd thing is that i haven't used the heater at all. Could the heater core be leaking even when the heater isn't being utilized?

After browsing some of the forums, it seems i can just connect the two hoses at the fire wall and bypass the heater core. Im not too concerned about not having heat as this isnt my daily driver, but I am concerned about the defrost. Will air still blow through the vents the defrost the windshield? I would assume it will, just wont be hot air?

I attached some additional photos. You can kind of see where the fluid is leaking by the lines in the carpet. I pulled the carpet and you can see fluid lines down the trans tunnel to where the fluid is collecting.

Any info or help would be greatly appreciated!

If it is behind the seat that is the B pillar issue folks have told you about.

Don't seem to have wet seatbelts or anything by the door wet.
