370Z '12, Sports Package S-MODE 95% never works

Hi guys,

I am really desperate with this.

I bought my car used about 3 months ago and eversince I bought it the S-MODE almost never worked.

Sometimes when I get off the S-MODE works for a few seconds but after driving half a minute it goes off with the "WARNING S-MODE" error message on the information display.

What is strange is that sometimes (especially) after pressure washing the car the S-MODE would work for a day or 2 and then goes off with the same error.

Recently I had the car go into the shop where they cleaned / measured and readjusted the SENSOR on the transmission. Which they thought helped but after I took the car from them same error showed during first couple seconds of driving.....

Could someone give me their tips as to what this should be? My Cruise Control seems to work fine every time.

Thanks.

Were any mods done to the car prior to you buying it?
I remember reading that if you changed the gearing ratio in the differential that it would cause issues with the S-Mode.

I guess except the fact that the rear wheels are widened, nothing has been done, but its hard to know 100 % as I bought it used already and the previous owner (2nd one) didnt know all that much either.

Thanks!

Has to be a sensor problem .......... you need to find out what the FSM says to diagnose it

Could be clutch sensor or gearbox position indicator but FSM will explain the diagnosis procedure

Thanks for the info,

https://www.nicoclub.com/nissan-service-manuals found the FSM's here, but didnt find the correct section, under which I could find any info about diagnosing the S-MODE problem, any idea, anyone?

I had the same issue after having a clutch installed ..the can bus cable got damaged ...I took it back to the mechanic and he was able to repair it ...he said that the way it is shielded makes it very difficult to repair ...and any disturbance in that wires signal will cause issues

Some PDF readers have a "search all PDFs in a folder" function. Dump all the FSM PDFs in a folder and have your reader search for "S-MODE".

Check the EC section.

Do you mean "Engine Control System" section of the FSM that I mentioned before?

Yes. You can start at EC-107 but you’ll see the S-mode stuff in the contents list too.
