Hitting redline -_-

Was doing some racing yesterday with afew guys. great times, but a few times I noticed myself banging off that 8k. Obviously I didn't mean too, but you know how it goes in the heat of the moment.

Now normally I baby my Z so of course I'm all nervous I messed something up, but I guess if there was any damage it would have been apparhent right away.....right?

That's what your rev limiter is for: to prevent damage. And it's at 7500 from the factory unless you raised it to 8000. If you raised it to 8K without supporting mods then you're not doing yourself any favors.

I have had it tuned but never asked for an increase so I assume it's still 7500. I guess it might not have been at true 8k just glanced at it for a quick sec between 1st and 3rd.

no worry, when it happens the engine will tell you by seizing up and giving out white smokes... :bowrofl:

The only time you have to worry about redline is if you down shift at to high an RPM.
One of my son's friends blew up a Honda doing that, and couldn't understand why. "That's what the rev limiter is for, right?"
Dead serious.

You'll be fine, just don't make it a nasty habit. Car was engineered to hit redline, it is a sports car. But if you did that 8k redline tune, oh man, do I have some bad news.

What oil do you use:stirthepot::stirthepot::stirthepot:

No point in going over 7k rpm anyway. Most dyno graphs I've seen begin dropping off there so no benefit (in most cases) riding it out to 8k.

I actually damaged my last engine like this ..I was high in the rpm range and was coming out of gear and I must have slightly hovered over a lower gear and the rev sync shot rpm up to red line and ....I say I damaged the motor ..I had a weird tapping noise that was very noticeable above 2500 rpm ...it still drove fine and pulled hard ....but after replacing the motor there isn’t any more tapping ...I think may have damaged something in the valve train ....if you don’t notice anything or have any new sounds you are prolly ok

Hit the limiter once a month. It’s a sports car, now if ur hitting 8k without mods to support that 8k then u may have some worries.
