Oil pump replacement or Oil pump Gear

I was looking at ordering a new oil pump gear to replace my factory gear.
Better to replace the entire pump or is the Gear sufficient?

Daily drive with weekend street fun.

I searched oil pump, oil, pump nothing

thank you

Boundary Engineering makes just the gear. Keep in mind if you do it properly and get a new OEM pump to put it in you're close to the price of the Suckerpuch oil pump, and with that you get a billet backing plate for extra strength as well.

Running the SuckerPunch Motorsports oil pump. Definitely a must have upgrade after seeing the Genuine Nissan OEM oil pumps fail at the track. Have heard great things about the boundary gears.

IMO,

Way over kill for a street setup. If you really want I think an oil pressure gauge would serve you better. The stock oil pump is known to fail above 8K RPM quickly. It's also likely if running at high rpms for an extended periods like may track rats do, which if you're doing on the street are more likely to crash then have the oil pump fail.

The stock oil light really won't save your motor if there is a sudden loss of pressure and gauge will cover you for all losses of pressure not just the pump itself. Not to mention much cheaper. But if you have money to burn then do both! And get Gale's gauge pod it's amazing.

If getting an oil pressure gauge. Have to get one that reads to 150 psi. Cold idle and high rpm will read over 110 psi.

Boundary Engineering gears are up for $400 and a new OEM pump is less than $200, so it's almost half of the Suckerpunch setup. Don't get me wrong, Suckerpunch's product is top of the line, I'm sure, just a little overkill from what I need.

I do have a question, though: How easy is a DIY gear replacement for the OEM oil pump? and are there any special tools required?

I'm looking at doing this whenever I do the gallery gaskets.

Thanks guys!

Feeler gauges, a machinist flat edge and an impact screw driver

I was about to ask where the heck you saw OEM pumps for under $200, checked conceptz and ill be damned....$195

Thanks for the tool list! Do you know if there is a DIY writeup? I'm in the planning phases, so I want to mentally walk through it a few times.

Down load the manual. Best bet.

They sell them pre installed now as well ...man where was this **** last year lol

The gears come with instructions, not sure where mine are but you're just checking clearances, it's not difficult.

Great Info thanks for the deal on a new pump
How the heck do I get the old pump out without removing the oil pan cradle?

But if you add another $300 for the Boundary Engineering billet housing, you aren't far off from the SuckerPunch setup cost :twocents:
