Weird problem - Car wont start and switch off too!

Guys

Been having this weird issue for a while. It seems only occur randomly every now and when. sometimes once in a month sometimes 3 months later. OBD Scan also does not report error.

When trying to start the car, all lights are on as usual but car wont actually crank. from there the car is not responding at. Can't even switch off!

The only way to resolve is to disconnect and reconnect the battery but i have to re-configure all my settings again. after that, all the car is back to normal.

Any thoughts? Thanks for any response in advance!

I had this issue too once. Trying to remember the cause. I think it was a loose / unconnected harness.

Maybe the starter wire?

Thanks for the reply.

I am not sure if starter wiring is the issue as that probably easier to replicate.

This issue only once in a while albeit annoying (and embarrassing as well).

Might also be your OBDII harness is loose under the dash.

Check the main fuse on the battery as well

Interesting point. Didn't think OBD2 scanner probably can cause this issue.

I do have generic BT OBD2 sensor plugin all the time used to display Torque App on android tablet but not in use anymore for months. Will unplug it today.

Checked all the fuses each on both engine bay and driver side. No bad fuse found.

damn...that was the issue with mine, the one right on the battery terminal.

Try changing the ECM relay inside the IPDM.

My 2012 did that when I killed the battery. It wouldn't start and the only way to turn it off was to hold the button down. If the battery is fully charged, check the battery terminals for corrosion between the terminal and post. While you live in a place that shouldn't have issue with corrosion, the proximity to salt air might let some grow. Good luck. :tiphat:

Unfortunately holding the button down does not shutdown. Terminals are cleaned when new battery fitted 3 months ago. I also had this issue with old battery so doesn't seems connected to battery or terminal.

For now, I have unplug the OBD Bluetooth sensor. Lets hope the issue no more.
