7at trans dipstick

Just saw this on the g37 forum and wanted to share it.

Thanks,
I've used that location for the fill but could never found a dipstick that I could trust to install. I think I'll give it a try.

Here is a link to the parts.

I think you have to use the dipstick for the 5at in the 350z hr because the trans has the same housing

Foremost, perfect for simple check of fluid condition rather than the dump and refill (wasting fluid) I just had to do at 10k miles after my first self flush and refill at 77k. I didn't replace the filter the first time around and the fluid (10k check) still looked new at 87k miles.

Of course much a much simpler fill and level check process as well!

Thanks a ton for re-posting on this forum! Found one on Ebay for $22 shipped as the seller thought it was the oil dipstick tube lol.

Mission accomplished

Ebayed a 2007 350z dipstick & tube.

Lessons learned:
You really have to want to do this if you do this. It is not a 1 hr deal. My experience was having to cut tabs fit, roll out, cut more tabs, roll out disconnected a wire harness mount test fit again. Custom bend tube. Test fit
Re-bend tube test fit & Voila. YMMV

This is also not a quick access check, unless you have little girl hands (I do not) so I used a pair of pliers to pull dipstick out & tap closed. It beats doing it from under the car. Be sure to re-score the dipstick to the new check level.;)

Here you go guys:

Great Job,
I knew this was the place on trans for it...I just really got good at checking from underneath & filling there as well.
Gonna make your drain/fills much easier

My only question is with your fill level post driving. According to post #7 in the thread on the other forum that members says "the dipstick is accurate". I hate assuming and I'm not a member there to ask, but to me that means the tick marks etc on the dip stick should also be representative of our level on the 370Z. Your picture would therefore show it way over filled.

Did you check it hot with the engine running as the G35 manual states to do or with the car turned off and the fluid hot and expanded in the pan and therefore at a higher level?

Thanks

Dude you can't just install it & say ok the level marks must be correct because the internet said so.http://www.naxja.org/forum/images/smilies/dunce.gif . For one this off of Ebay advertised as from a 2007 350z but for some reason it had this extra little flange that does not apply, so who knows what it's really from but I got it to work. Once you get it in then you can go through the process of checking your level from the inspection overflow hole at 104deg F, which I will do once I drop the pan & install my Trans Temp Gauge. My trans is at the same level it was when it left the lot.

You always check an auto trans fluid level after shifting through the gears so the fluid fills the torque converter & starts to pump pressure/ fluid in the lines.

I checked the level cold for just a base line & it was still above the indicating marks.

Once again YMMV

Really man, you wanna call me a dunce for simply stating the person who discovered the mod has a different baseline than you? :icon23:

Not calling you a dunce, calling ANY & ALL individuals who would assume that they could just install something based on something shown on the internet without verifying anything would be a http://www.naxja.org/forum/images/smilies/dunce.gif

Ignorance is Bliss until Reality Bites YMMV ;)

It is absolutely is a 1 hr job with the same dipstick usage as the G37 forum guy. The best fitting one uses the ring type pull with lock instead of the "nut" top, has the correct bottom flange, doesn't have the extra hose to delete and cap, doesn't have to be bent and puts the stick between the engine and OE strut tower brace; not buried against the firewall, like the pictures above.

I removed the OE cat brace, cut the bottom dipstick tube bracket where it interferes with the OE wire harness bolting spot, bought the bolt that goes in the available hole on the back of the head thereby bolting the tube there using the tube tab and done. One cut and zero bending.

I wear size XL gloves and can quick access check without issue. Maybe another plus to using the tube that the G37 forum guy did.

Well that's what I get for trying to be cheap http://www.naxja.org/forum/images/smilies/anon.gif. Who knows what dipstick I have http://www.naxja.org/forum/images/smilies/dunno.gif (see Ebay) but it works for me now

Glad it went smooth for you http://www.naxja.org/forum/images/smilies/cheers.gif . Do you have any pics you could share?

I saw the dipstick you used on ebay but of course also the unit i purchased as outlined by the G37 forum member. I'll post the part number in a few when I can get to ebay. It as $22.40 delivered plus a couple of bucks for the bolt and new O-ring.

The only picture I have would be from the top which is the same as what the G37 member did.
