Lasted only maybe a minute or so, but she was so close to stalling that I didn't wait to see if the issue self-corrected: I goosed the gas a little, and as soon as I did the engine smoothed out and the voltage went back to 14.

I'll bring it back to the same shop next weekend; I can't get there today/sooner. Again, both for continuity and because if they didn't tighten something properly (or whatever) I won't pay for the fix.

*sigh*

Sounds like your alternator is failing. Autozone can test this for free. And have them check your battery while theyre at it.

Yeah, the voltage/idle thing definitely seems to be connected. I'm paying close attention this week. Instead of driving it back to the shop (22 miles away), I'll probably just bring it to the local NTB and ask them to take a look.

So glad dad showed me how to work on cars. This is why I refuse to let anyone do routine maintenance work (like oil changes) on my car. I'm worried they'll not put in the right oil I requested, put in too little or too much, forget to tighten the drain bolt or over-torque it, forget to change out the oil filter or put the wrong one in and then not tighten it properly. That kind of **** would keep me awake at night and I would end up doing it all over myself the next weekend just so I could sleep again.

I started changing my own oil after some numbnuts at a Midas put my 350Z dipstick in the wrong hole, leaving an open tube. Went for a roadtrip and saw I had 0 oil pressure.

Everyone here should be doing their own oil changes it’s very easy and there are write ups here on how to do an oil change on a 370Z. Definitely avoid bringing your 370Z to places like Midas, Jiffy Lube,or any quick oil change shop because a lot of these people how work at these places don’t know much about our cars and can quickly screw up your 370Z. I know one person that went to Jiffy Lube to get his oil changed on his STI and the lube technician drained the motor oil but, never changed the oil filter or refilled the motor oil. One day later his engine catastrophically failed and his turbocharger failed as well. :mad:Get your oil changed by anyone but you at your own risk!

I change every 5000 km or every 3000 miles (For you Yanks). I use a KN Gold filter. Oil? I use Motul Xclean 5w30 because it makes me feel good. If you are keeping regular intervals and using a quality filter, any synthetic oil will do.

Has anyone cleaned the throttle bodies or looked at the air filters? This sound like an Idle air control issue that needs to be addressed. The voltage will drop on the gauge as the idle drops. This is a non-issue.

For those who want to know how to clean the throttle bodies. First watch this:

Then watch this:

After you do this you can go clean the MAF sensors, here's a vid:
