5th gear popping out of place

I did some searches for transmission gear issues on the forum, but I couldn't find anything for my particular issue. I'm only making this thread because I'm curious if anyone else has had this issue. I drive a 2010 370z nismo with the BP turbo kit.

I just swapped over to the OS giken triple plate clutch. The first thing I noticed was the transmission wouldn't hold 5th gear on deceleration. If I'm on the gas it will stay in place. But as soon as I take the pressure off the gas pedal the shifter will slowly come back to neutral by itself. I've never had any grinding issues with this gear or other gears. This is also the only gear that will pop out. I'm assuming the synchro is going bad but others that have had bad synchros all have grinding issues.

I just had my shop install the new clutch drain/refill the trans fluid. Prior to this I had a single disk with the HD CSC from Joe at Z speed and the Z1 poly trans/motor mounts. I've had 0 transmission issues with that setup.

Anyone else here have issues with the shifter popping out of gear? I'm assuming my 5th gear will start to grind eventually since its having problems staying in place. I was sitting at 620whp before I installed the new clutch. I havent boosted on the OS giken clutch yet because the car needs a retune for the new engine that was also put in at the same time.

Here's a thread with the same issue I came across from the my350z forum. I also had my trans pulled and engine put back in. Seems like it might be a removal or install error. Had anyone else experienced this?

My guess would be that the gear is not going in all the way. Don't know how the linkage works on the Z but I'd be surprised if there were any external adjustments. If so, probably out of adjustment. Maybe something fell in to interfere with the stick moving all the way into gear. Only other thing would be clutch plate put in backwards. I've heard it's possible but don't know if it just makes noise or has other issues if reversed.

I'm thinking it's an install issue as well because I'm not having any grinding. Then again I'm not a transmission expert in any way. Going to ask around before I bring it back to the shop.

If you don't trust the shop, that's one thing. But this sounds like the type of thing that I would bring immediately back to the shop that did the work. They need to make it right and if it was an install issue, the labor to fix it should be on their dime.

Sound like the shifter is out of adjustment not allowing it to fully engage 5th gear.

You can try adjusting it yourself, it's probably the shifter guide plate that's installed wrong. You just need a 10mm socket and about 15 minutes.
"If you remove the shifter boot assembly, you'll see the brass colored bracket with 3 bolts that secures the shifter. When you put the shifter in 6th gear, it should just touch the side of the bracket. If not, adjust it accordingly. Same for 5th gear; it should touch the bracket. "

So...what was the problem?

Sounds like it was the shifter plate the way he quoted Spooler's post
