267K Mile Engine
1 Attachment(s)
Thought you guys would like to see what a well maintained engine looks like on the inside. While it's a Toyota, you can see what regular oil changes do for your engine. 267k Miles on it. Regular Castrol GTX oil. Started missing on cylinder 4 so I checked the valve gaps. A little tight so I'm in the process of getting thinner shims for her. May be an injector so ordered a rebuild kit for them too. Hopefully get her going good enough to hit 300k.

She's been sitting around a lot since I bought the Z which I'm sure hasn't helped. Dealership didn't have the shims I needed so special order. I was surprised they only come in .002 increments. Started intermittent missing about 150 miles into a 700 mile trip. By the end of the trip it was missing more frequently and for longer durations.

All the spark plugs looked identical and good. I was surprised when I compared them. Compression ratio was all over the place, 140-185. 185 was on the missing cylinder. Exhaust gap was up to .002 under spec on the low ones. Picked up the shims last night and they're in. Waiting on the injector rebuild kit to go to the next step. Hopefully they show up tonight. This is an old single coil motor so coil should be good.

1 other thing... The spark gap was a little small on the miss fire cylinder. Opened it up to spec. Possible contributor.

Misfire followed the injector... Moved from cylinder 4 to cylinder 1. Even with the new filters in the injectors. Ran a few gallons with the Lucas injector cleaner in it with no problem. Came back after I filled the tank with more gas.
Looks like I'll be running a couple tanks with injector cleaner and see if I can get it to clear. After that... it'll be a new set of injectors. |

Dynosty recommended Castrol GTX for an engine they built for me. 5 gallon jug can be had at Walmart for around $18. Good stuff!!!!!!
