267K Mile Engine

Thought you guys would like to see what a well maintained engine looks like on the inside. While it's a Toyota, you can see what regular oil changes do for your engine. 267k Miles on it. Regular Castrol GTX oil. Started missing on cylinder 4 so I checked the valve gaps. A little tight so I'm in the process of getting thinner shims for her. May be an injector so ordered a rebuild kit for them too. Hopefully get her going good enough to hit 300k.

Congratulations on being able to make it to that high of mileage. Toyota and Lexus vehicle reliability and dependability is hard to beat with Nissan and Infiniti being not too far behind them from what I have seen. Doing your general maintenance go’s a long way really. Check your valve gaps and what the clearance is to find out if it is with in Toyota spec? If you have to at that mileage I would purchase brand new fuel injectors if you have to. From the pics engine does not look too bad doing oil changes on time helps a lot. The 2003 Toyota Camry we had ex taxi made it to 402K miles before it was traded in and it still ran fine. Toyota’s are great vehicles all around.

She's been sitting around a lot since I bought the Z which I'm sure hasn't helped. Dealership didn't have the shims I needed so special order. I was surprised they only come in .002 increments. Started intermittent missing about 150 miles into a 700 mile trip. By the end of the trip it was missing more frequently and for longer durations.

Get the shims where you can find them. Your coil packs and spark plugs would be possible culprits for your miss. I had to replace all the coil packs before on our 2003 Toyota Camry they can go bad without notice a specially when subjected to moisture. Have you pulled all the spark plugs yet?

my buddy has an 97 Camry v6/auto with 350k+ miles. original engine and trans. another with an 96 Integra with close to 300k miles, again original engine and trans. both original owners.

All the spark plugs looked identical and good. I was surprised when I compared them. Compression ratio was all over the place, 140-185. 185 was on the missing cylinder. Exhaust gap was up to .002 under spec on the low ones. Picked up the shims last night and they're in. Waiting on the injector rebuild kit to go to the next step. Hopefully they show up tonight. This is an old single coil motor so coil should be good.

1 other thing... The spark gap was a little small on the miss fire cylinder. Opened it up to spec. Possible contributor.

Misfire followed the injector... Moved from cylinder 4 to cylinder 1. Even with the new filters in the injectors. Ran a few gallons with the Lucas injector cleaner in it with no problem. Came back after I filled the tank with more gas.
Looks like I'll be running a couple tanks with injector cleaner and see if I can get it to clear. After that... it'll be a new set of injectors.

Yes, replace your fuel injectors with new o rings if you have no choice. One of the only fuel injector cleaners I have ever used that actually works is the Chevron fuel injector cleaner. Also use top tier gasoline when using the Chevron fuel injector cleaner it will be more effective.

Dynosty recommended Castrol GTX for an engine they built for me. 5 gallon jug can be had at Walmart for around $18. Good stuff!!!!!!
