HELP!! ticking after tune
 

So last weekend, i got my tune. (half tune) aka just license since they couldn’t tune it at that moment and time and this morning, i started the Z.. heard clicking noises coming just from my driver side header, when i rev/accelerate i can hear it as well. same spot. any insight? i’m new to this stuff so i’m lost in the sauce.. would appreciate all that help i can get.. couple things i researched, what it could be.. oil (changed that today) since i thought it was that. nope, still ticking. then i looked it up and saw it could be the valves, rod, pistons, so i’m lost in the sauce.

Could you clarify what you mean by "half-tune?" As in, what exactly and specifically was done to your vehicle and your ECU?

UpRev license and Arc license. and a heatwave tune, he wasn’t able to tune it because my 02 sensors weren’t on my headers so monday i put those on. and wednesday morning all of this sfarted

Sounds like an exhaust leak from the header install.

So, take off the driver side header and make sure the brackets and? or just let buy a new bracket and swap

Bracket? What bracket can cause an exhaust leak? Just replace the gasket. Use some of that copper gasket spray on a new manifold gasket and be done with it. Make sure the manifold to cat pipe connection isn't leaking as well.

After rereading your previous post, make sure that the O2 sensors are tight enough before you go through the hassle of redoing the header install.

You can verify Chuck33079's diagnosis by getting a piece of hose or flexible tubing, placing one end at your ear, and moving the other end near the suspected source of the ticking. Be careful when working around a running engine.

meant to say gasket, not sure why i said bracket earlier. and for the 02 sensors i’ll be sure to check them again. i appreciate it

Also, when you tighten down the header bolts do it from the inside out, going half tight on all of them and then torquing them all down on the second pass. Probably overkill, but headers suck to install and you don't want to have to keep redoing it.

so once i found out where it could be, should i just tighten the bolt? and see if that works?

Yes, always try the easiest way first.

It won't hurt. The exhaust gasses can erode the gasket, but, if you haven't run the engine for very long, you may be OK. Use a torque wrench so you don't over-tighten.

But you need to verify that the manifold is the problem before you start cranking on bolts. Chuck is probably correct (especially since you recently replaced the manifold) but 370Zs make a lot of "weird" noises.

This. You do NOT want to strip out the stud hole on the head. That would turn a minor DIY issue into a major problem.
