Harsh Gear Changes
Hi,
I have a AT 370z Roadster (2014). I am the second owner and I have noticed for a while that the changing of gears using the paddles is a bit harsh and it seems very occasional it slips. The first issue seems mainly 3rd to 4th it is most noticeable on, it is like a real ker-chunk change (no mechanical noise) but seems real brutal. Second issue happens rarely and happens in auto (noticed it 4-5th) and feels to me like clutch plates slipping as it changes revs high for a second and then is ok. PS change down is fine and it has done 60k miles. I live in Dubai so it is very difficult to get real mechanical advice as main dealers are worst in world (will change whole suspension arm just to change bush and you can't buy just bush!!!) and independent don't give you impression they really know what they are talking about. |
Not an expert on the auto transmission but I do know that it's a conventional automatic meaning it has a torque converter. Therefore, the first thing I would do is have the transmission oil changed. Make sure you use the right type of transmission oil per your owners manual. I would personally stick to Nissan transmission fluid. Good luck.

Thanks CYBER370, I was thinking to get this done, do you know it there is a filter for ATF or is it a sealed unit? Think it was just Porsche who had filters on some cars.

Not sure if there’s a filter. I don’t think so but maybe someone else who knows for sure will chime in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Yes indeed have your transmission completely flushed using a machine such as the transmission flush machine you can find at your local Nissan dealership service department before you go any further. After you complete a transmission fluid flush see how your transmission shifts afterwards it should “smooth” your shifts out quite a bit. Report back if the problem persists.
