Small Oil Leak

I tried searching, but none of the threads apply.

I garage my car and drive her only on the weekends and maybe put about maybe 400 miles/month. Car is a ‘13 and has 30k miles. Whenever I drive the car, it seems like there is a drop or two of oil that leaks (very small amount) the next day I check. And the oil drops only appear after driving the car, but whenever I leave her sitting, no leaks.

I change my own oil, replace the filter, washer each change and tighten slightly above the specs.

Any ideas?

You need to take that plastic shroud off and look under the car and see where it's coming from. It could be the drain plug, the filter, anything down there. Even though you did it per specs, something could have not seated properly.

A few drops every now and then is nothing to get too worried about. You're polluting a little bit but shouldn't do any harm to the engine as long as your keep an eye on the level.

That said, I'd still do what Benibiker recommended - pull the tray and see where the leak is coming from. It may be a symptom of something bad. And nobody likes a polluter. ;)

I check my oil level before each time I drive and its the same 99% of the time. It’s just that once in a blue moon I have to put a small amount in (I like to keep the oil level more so towards the “F” mark rather than the middle of the dipstick). I did take the tray off but no oil markings on the top inside.

Next time. Mark the ground where a front tires sits. Use this as a reference line. Back the car up. See where the oil spot is on the ground. Measure the distance to the line from the front tires. Doing this can pin point where the leak is dripping from the bottom of the car. Is the drip in front of the front tires, or behind them?

I’m going to try this. The drip is more so towards the rear of the front tires, but not completely. It’s near about where the drain plug area is roughly.

I had a small drip on my 13 also, it was the filter.
Not sure why but over 45 yrs. of changing my oil this has only happened twice & both times it was a K & N filter!
