slight supercharger whine on throttle

I'm hoping you guys can shed some light on whats going on with my Z. Recently had the CSC failure so i purchased https://www.zspeedperformance.com/ZS...SPSTG1-OPT.htm /w the ZSpeed CMAK CSC DELETE. Not sure if this stuff is related but its the only thing done to the car recently..so i thought i'd mention it.

Edit: i just realized that the whine is something to do with the clutch. In netutral, I put the clutch pedal all the way down, and immediately noticed less idle noise obviously but i gave the car some throttle and that whine is gone, when i let go of the clutch and i blip the throttle that whine is there.. gets a little higher in frequency the higher i rev.

Found a vid on youtube that describes my issue perfectly.

"First rev is with the clutch pedal out, second is with the pedal pressed in"

I was driving today and went to park and put the car in neutral... I noticed clicking sounds coming from underneath the car on the driver side.. sounds like how some cars make when you turn them off after being really hot and the pipes are making those tick/click sounds.. the thing is this car has never done this sound so this was new to me seems to happen almost everytime i park after driving (car remaining on).. so i attempted to hit the throttle a little and noticed i'd get a whine sound, i dont seem to hear it while in motion/drive but in neutral i hear it, and its not crazy loud but enough that i can hear it over my ark grip/headers/hfc so its def audible.... I also notice the car doesn't seem to make as much as a raspyness sound at the higher RPM's.. it was a bit raspy high up there but now its gone? so im thinking exhaust leak? I tried to listen to where this whine was coming from but it sounds like its coming from the engine bay but then it also sounds like its coming from under the car near center.. i cant pin it to one small spot, just the car in general... but i know for a fact that i never heard it before when hitting the throttle, it was JUST my exhaust plus some common hissing noise from the ark exhaust but now this whine is annoying.

bump :(

The exhaust system does have to be removed to do the clutch install...maybe something wasn't buttoned up tight? Slightly out of position? Re-used a gasket that should have been replaced? Just some ideas...

Thats what i was thinking also. upon driving my car more, i just realized that the whine is something to do with the clutch. In netutral, I put the clutch pedal all the way down, and immediately noticed less idle noise obviously but i gave the car some throttle and that whine is gone, when i let go of the clutch and i blip the throttle that whine is there.. gets a little higher in frequency the higher i rev.

Maybe this will help narrow down the issue?

I just had Joe's Stage II EZ-Street clutch installed with the exterior CSC, and as he explained to me on the phone, ALL aftermarket clutches will display some degree of drivetrain chatter at low RPMs. However, that does not seem to be what you are describing. I have a small amount of chatter, but not a significant amount more than the stock system. I understand the noise you are experiencing, and it seems to be a different animal. I wonder if it might be something to do with the CSC delete?

This doesn't seem to be your issue, but I'll throw it out there. A/C compressors will whine when they are dead/dying.

Was the throwout bearing replaced with the exterior CSC? I've heard these bearings make all kinds of noises, especially when there is no load on them...Just my two cents.

Keep us posted as to what you find.

Thanks for the responses, and about the throwout bearing not sure tbh i'd have to ask. Unfortunately the shop that did the install is closed today so it'll have to wait a couple days since im off Wednesday.

I'll post up a video of the sound today, so maybe you guys can get a better idea of that sound. I personally don't think its normal but i guess we shall see!

The guy who posted that video said "turns out it was the input shaft. had to get the transmission replaced" ... god i really hope not, i just spent a ton of money to fix this csc issue.

bump! Anyone had a chance to check out the vid? can anyone confirm of this is a normal sound? i dont get it as loud as the one in the video but that could be due to my ark exhaust.

Asus_ 05-24-2018 10:43 AM

Bump! Anyone?

I don't know if others have this difficulty with embedded videos, but I can't view them on this messageboard. If you could give the title of the video, I'll search for it and listen.

I listened to your video, then several others from various cars with throwout bearing noise. A throwout bearing typically makes a pulsating, very slight grinding/scraping noise, and not a whine like you are experiencing.

Since you may not get a good answer from the shop who installed it (or did you do it yourself?), I would recommend giving Joe a call, or maybe send him a PM linked to this thread.

Joe@ZSpeed 05-25-2018 09:24 AM

Thats trans whine, Either gear whine or a bearing whine, I have heard quite a few do this, some are louder than others. Mine did it since owning it and never got any worse.

Once you push the clutch in the trans is no longer turning, If it goes away when pushing clutch in it is something in the transmission itself.
