Supercharger vs. Twin Turbos
So... I’m sure SOMEONE out there has a Supercharger OR Turbo(s) installed on their 370Z? What are your thoughts on the “upgrade”? What extra would you do OR not do? The company I’m looking at for my installation, charges 20K for the Stillen supercharger and transmission rebuild AND 30K for the FI Twin Turbo & transmission rebuild. 550 RWHP for the supercharger & 700 RWHP for the Turbos. Should I spend the money or just buy something else? If I buy something else, I’ll lose money on the car (of course)
Thanks for the input! |
I think superchargers are more fun. Linear power. You get what you put into it. The more supportive mods to support other mods to support the desired power, the more you get out of it. Twin turbo is like free power to me where it doesnt take power from the engine and also the boost usually wont kick in until later RPMs.
I like low to midrange boost rather than mid to upper range boost. It supports my daily driving this way as well xD At the same time, I think it is fun to upgrade superchargers haha. Im also bias :) |
Power can be addictive. With a Stillen supercharger sooner or later you are gonna hit a brick wall in trying to squeeze more power instead of a twin turbo system and believe me you're gonna want more power after a while. F.I. twin turbo hit hard at low rpms almost all the way to redline. At least that has been my experience with it. Go overboard with the fuel part. Don't skip on that area like some do

Also, are you ok with throwing 20k in parts at a car, keeping another 5-10k in reserve at all times in case something happens, and then getting pennies on the dollar when you try to sell your Z? |
Thanks for the information!!!!!

If you go supercharged to the Topgunz. RJM is making a roots blower I think. If you go TT do fast intentions or have the external wastegate done on the AAM |
Yeah I wenr supercharge then bought topz a2a.
I also will replace the head unit with a v7 later down the road as well as get a 4.34L stroker kit haha |
I currently have both ..2015 supercharged and and 2017 turbo ...and it is really hard to say which I like best ....both cars are completely different animals ..boost rolls in fast and hard with the turbo and there is much more torque but it feels like a stock car with power explosion when it does ...the supercharger feels more direct and connected and responds like a stock car with a lot more power ....both are great ...but I would say the supercharger would be better for daily driving and the turbo would be better for racing ...even though I daily drive both mine. In the end I am pleased with both ...the real trick is keeping traction with either car lol
