Are all auto trans on 370z and G37 the same?
 

Question for the automatic guru's. I have a 2009 touring/sport with auto. I added TopgunZ's SC kit and want to have my trans upgraded by level 10. The local shop I use called me they just replaced a damaged transmission in a 2010 and offered to send that one to level 10 for upgrade and when it comes back swap mine for it. It will save me lots of down time. My question is are all the autos the same? I know mine has paddle shifters and Rev match, will the donor trans need to be Same?

Yo could try going to a parts DB like courtesy parts and find your tranny, it will show what other cars reference that part #.

I believe the TCU is unique to your vehicle. If you installed a trans from a different vehicle, that trans would need to have the TCU reflashed to the “service level”.

Might check with the steeler on this.

I would be reluctant to put an unkown trans (built or not) in my car, unless I knew the history on it.

All in all both transmissions may be the same but, I would hesitant to use a transmission that you do not know how it was used it could have been used at the track for all you know. The Level 10 transmissions can be used for street duty but are more geared for track use. A Level 10 transmission will be able to with stand more whp and wtq.

I don't see the reason for all the concern. If you're going to re-build it right (i.e. Level 10), who cares who did what to it before? People re-build engines all the time. Can anyone explain why you can't do the same to a transmission?

I believe they are the same as they are the same engine and most TCM’s today are self learning. The FSM makes no mentions of programming when replacing a TCM so I’m assuming these TCM already come programmed (which is more common for Japanese modules vs Euro or American). I think you’ll be ok sending that trans to level 10 and having them rebuild it and clear the adaptive values.

Having built 100s of ATs,

I would much rather have a known good trans (known mileage) upgraded rather than a failed unit (unkown mileage and damage) that may have some transparent issue, that might not get completely addressed during the upgrade.

The donor trans that was offered was replaced by insurance claim. The driver ran over something and the pan was bent and a bolt was shoved into and hurt the valve body, since it will be replaced with level10's valve body, I thought why not save me the down time. My main concern was making sure they are compatible since mine is a sport model with manual shift mode.
