I can overheat my oil in less than 1/4 mile of agressive driving with 5-30 mobile 1 at 60F ambient. (My cooler kit is here waiting for install.)

No way I would use 20w oil or lighter with this engine.

Mine sets right around 200 no matter what driving conditions with the 5w30. I will be seeing what it registers now.

curious to see how the thinner oil effect the oil temp. it will flow better and may even disperse the heat better? I got this quote from the Mobil site regarding the M1 Synthetic oil: "Mobil 1 advanced synthetic motor oil provides outstanding high-temperature performance and is proven to protect at engine temperatures up to 500°F"

I suppose the most important factor is how well the oil lubricate the engine.

That is about the same articles I have seen. I can only hope for good results. I'll post some results in about 2 weeks.

I agree - If Mobil1 5w30 works - Why change to another oil type?:iagree:

Because they want to sell Nissan oil and because they get a good $$$ price for it for buying bulk.

Also, they can just stock 1 brand of oil. Maybe Mobil is not giving them a good price break on bulk and it doesn't say NISSAN.

I figure most of it is for $$$$ and some for marketing.

If we take the average, non-mechanical minded driver, and put two oil containers in front of them, Mobil 1 and the other NISSAN, they will most likely ask for the Nissan, just because it is made by the OEM.

Throw in the nifty Salesman ( which most service managers are now) and it will be easy to pitch whatever you are going to make lots of money on.

The $h*t they throw at people.

Actually, the R35 Uses mobil 1.

All other cars use OEM Nissan 0W-20 . why other dealers sell it for so much is beyond me. However the 370Z should still be using 5W-30 ,Motul 5W-30 will work just as good as the OE Stuff, which works just as good as Mobil 1.

if you are tracking your car it is very likely you are using on oil cooler so Mobil 1 Racing, Motul 300V, or Torco SR5-R will all work well. street cars will not see a difference.

However they probably screwed up, put the wrong oil and tried to cover it up. Next time don't let them talk you into keeping what they put in there. it's not your fault they made a mistake.

R35 uses Ow40 mobil 1? Stocking that just for GTR, is not going to bother them since customer will pay through the teeth for it. So, you have basically said what I said. 0W20 will work for everything else. Need Stock 1 oil and save money but charge customers more.

I agree 5W30 for 370Z. ONLY.

Well I've put a couple of weeks on the new oil & I don't see much of a difference in the two. The temps here have been running in the 85 - 90 range. I've done some city driving & some highway. Temps seem to be very close to what they have always been. If anything they might be 1 to 2 degrees lower. The only real difference I see is that it takes a lot longer for the temps to come up. There seems to be a difference in opinion as far as 0w20 vs. 3w30 with the members posting here. I guess I'll just let it ride for awhile & see how it goes.

Ive always brought my own filter and oil whenever i feel the need to use their inspection printout (tire wear, pads etc). 10$ in labor and a decent wash after. My first ever oil change from them with my used Z was a half and half castrol stuff and I felt like i was ripped off for the price (like always) i paid -or could have paid if i supplied my own and have em do it.
My dealer doesnt carry the special nissan sauce..ester? which they said would run about 120$.

I have used 0w40 once or twice in my Z and G.. only difference was the same as you, felt like it took a little longer to bring up to temp. After my 19 oil cooler install, I went back to 5w30. Temps still come out slow even with about half of it blocked off.

Back on topic, OP, do let us know if any problems come up.

I plan on keeping a close eye on it. I'm still not convinced that this is the best answer.

Anyone try the new germal castrol 0w-40 or mobil 1 0w-40? These are the only "true" full synthetics that castrol and mobil offer in the US. They are a very thin 40w and Im thinking it will shear down nicely, possibly to a perfect oil for summer/zdayz abuse?

Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30 in my Z. Screw the dealership....if it has been good since the 370z started that's nearly 9 years...and I have read of zero engine related failures or problems in this car. In fact after exhaustive research and trial and error I concluded this is one of the most reliable performance cars in existence that's why I purchased it so ...why the change? I am not buying it OP...

barncobob 04-17-2017 12:23 PM

redline 5w30, true group 5 ester full synthetic....only other oils like it are amsoil and royal purple..

So, I was looking at the Mobil1 EP vs Regular Mobil 1 Syn, and I see that the specs are identical. The only thing it appears that you get with the EP is extra price and a 25,000mile Guarantee?

Ok so I don’t feel so bad now. I too went to a Nissan dealer for an oil change and after getting home I realized they put 0w20 in my 09 as well. I googled “Nissan tech put 0w20 in my 370z” and it brought me here haha. Maybe it is the new recommended weight for the Z.
