Why worry about disabling it. A guy on here has a Motec controlling the VVEL on his TT 370z. I am sure he could hook you up with a standalone.

Hah - I hope to have less in my entire engine + trans + ECU setup than an entry level Motec would cost. Hell, the whole chassis added onto the drivetrain would still likely be below the cost of a Motec.

This isn't a competition to spend money to hit the "easy button," it's all about building a fast car myself on a budget.


That said, I'm shying away from the HR/VHR engines after pouring over a few dozen pictures of them. I'm sure with enough time and money they can be adapted to a FWD trans, but it won't be easy since there is all sorts of stuff in the way.

I'm now strongly leaning towards an '09 Maxima engine. It's a VQ35DE bottom end, VQ35HR heads. With some cams it should make decent power, albeit being a bit rev limited.
