$2000 - $3000 + Tuning for Flex Fuel?

Just had my bone stock Z tuned for 93 Octane and gained what was expected via ECUTEK. For $650 I'm happy. I've seen others make about the same gains, again, by going to E85, another 12 WHP or so. So I figured, I've already got ECUTEK, for $299 I can get an ECA-2 sensor and analyzer, add in some fuel hose, wire to ECU, and just get another tune. It can't be too expensive can it? Got 2 quotes from the same shop. An expensive way, and a more expensive way. With tax and tune (already have license) the highest was over $3500. $2300 for the other method. Both quotes assumed the stock injectors would be maxed out, so it includes new injectors (ID1000) and Pump, lines, fittings, etc.

I'm not questioning the quotes or rates here, just curious if this is what it takes to run Flex Fuel? I haven't seen others mention any of this when they converted to E85 or Flex. I'm thinking someone needs to finally sell a kit that can be self-installed so we can just get it tuned. The tune was only $250, but that's just 1/10 the price of the conversion.:icon14:

^^ This.

Injectors, pump, perhaps fuel return? Sounds like a pretty reasonable price if all that is included. 1000cc injectors are about $1300 alone.

Or you can buy a set of takeoff GTR injectors and a new fuel pump. I'll bet you can get it done for under $1k plus the retune. 1000cc injectors are way oversized for a NA car.

Id1050x have SS internals so you don't run the risk of damaging the injectors.

I agree with this... The Aeromotive 340 costs less than $200, and I just searched for used GTR injectors on ebay and the first result was only $286 shipped. You can install these yourself if you are handy, these are pretty simple mods if you are savvy.

Hi Guys, like I said, I'm not questioning the price when you look at all thats included, Ive just never seen anyone say you needed all this to tune a NA on E85. When people post about E85 with just bolts on, and then list the bolt ons, or bone stock, they don't list $2000 in other mods. If they had them, I'd expect to see they upgraded pump and injectors, but they don't. So that's what I'm asking, is all that necessary? I was just shocked to see the total cost for running on E85 when people seem to be doing it for next to nothing once the sensors were installed. Obviously if this is the case, E85 costs for an N/A car are ridiculous, and nobody should do it. :) $3500 is about ½ the cost of a ready to roll BP Turbo kit.

No, all you need are $500 in parts and a retune.

How many cc's are the GTR injectors? 600? I've got Bosch 850 ($400 wheeling and dealing), just for reference here.

Injectors are a piece of cake to change yourself.

Aeromotive 340 is $115 from CJM (just ordered one last night) and comes with everything but if you want a plug and play harness it's an extra $39. Still a bargain any way you look at it.

Seb charges a few hundred bucks for the e85 e-tune.

No reason this should cost anywhere near 2-3k. Personally I'm not sure it's worth it to squeeze 12hp extra out of it. I'm sure there are better and more economical ways to accomplish the same or better.

If it helps any I just posted a Stillen high output fuel pump from the supercharger kit for cheap.

I've been running flex fuel on my G37 for almost a year now and all I needed was GT-R injectors, ethanol sensor (I went with the Innovate ECF-1 and repurposed the fuel pressure sensor for oil pressure), and a tune.

I installed it all myself, wasn't hard if your savvy with mechanical and light electrical automobile work. There are a few others that have gone flex on N/A and they also confirm the no need for a pump and all the other bells and whistles.

I have two customers, one with DW1000's on stock pump on E85, and another customer with a HR 350z with GTR injectors and stock pump. No issues.

You will need more fuel if you go E85. So yes, you will need injectors and a pump. How much extra depends on your future plans. If your plans are to stay NA, then you can go with GTR injectors or something around 600cc and a pump to feed them. If you plan to boost, the you can run the larger injectors and pump. In my case, I am still NA but with the proper tune my 340lph pump and 1000cc injectors run at 49% on E85 (less on the 91 tune). I did not want to get smaller injectors and pump only to have to try and sell them when I boost.
