CSC Failed - Need Help Fast Please

I had my 2009 Z serviced last week. It has 65K miles on it, I am the original owner. I complained that the clutch felt soft. They charged me $252 to drain and flush the clutch fluid and replace with DOT4 GTR fluid. The clutch pedal still felt like crap all weekend. This morning it went to the floor and exhibited all signs of CSC failure that have been described on this board.
The car is at the dealer now. Here is what they said:

Replace CSC. Entails dropping the transmission to get to it. Repair cost is $1595
Replace Master Clutch Cylinder. Repair cost is $356. Total for both is $1951

I thought the CSC is the cylinder located at the upper left rear by the reservoir for the clutch fluid ?

Are they F.O.S. and trying to hose me for $1951 ? Please help. Thanks guys

csc is located INSIDE the tranny casing.

sounds bout right though for a dealer fix.. u need to drop the tranny.

kenchan 01-03-2017 01:43 PM

another reason y id get the external slave cylinder mod if mine ever died. den no need to drop the tranny to swap cylinders.

Duc_Z09 01-03-2017 01:47 PM

Doesn't Z1 make a kit that eliminates the need for the slave entirely? I'd go with that if you have to do all the work anyway... no need to ever worry about it again.

Dwight Frye 01-03-2017 01:50 PM

Thanks, looks like I'll be spending my tax refund in advance. I will ask the dealer to refund the $252 I paid last week for the drain & flush of the clutch fluid.

Oh yeah. Should have specified internal, crappy prone-to-failure slave.

MagmaRed370z 01-03-2017 02:12 PM

Price sounds about right. I would definitely replace it with the Z1 so you don't have to do this all over again when it fails again (AND IT WILL).

Yep, I'm hosed. I do a lot of routine maintenance like oil changes, transmission and differential oil changes, etc but brake jobs, dropping the transmission and that type of work are beyond my capabilities. The car has been trouble free for 7 years and 65K miles other than this major expense.

By the way, thanks everyone for the quick responses and Happy New Year

shirokenkami 01-03-2017 03:25 PM

ZSpeed also has a kit. It's the one I used.

Definitely do the master when you do the slave. I did the HD csc from z1.

Parts were about 700 cad (fk the conversion) labour was about 800 and went through 4 bottles of clutch fluids due to a string of faulty bleeder screw. Fml.

Thanks for reminding me I used some shoddy dot 4 on the last one since I didn't want to to waste anymore Rbf 60p or endless... lol sigh.

DemandedAce 01-03-2017 04:39 PM

See if you can have it towed to a separate shop IMO. I just had my CSC replaced for a total of parts/labor of $820.43 and they finished it overnight - great shop that I would refer literally anyone to. I wouldn't just suck up the dealer hit, as I had one Nissan dealer quote me $1.4k and another $2.2k before I found this other shop.

Could be worth shopping for

If you can do all that, replacing pads and rotors is well within your capabilities.:happydance:

TreeSemdyZee 01-03-2017 05:09 PM

I paid less than that to have Joe at Zspeed install clutch, lightweight flywheel, CSC, SS clutch line and fluid.

kenchan 01-03-2017 06:32 PM

I think the dealer already started the work. kinda late telling him now... at this point it is more insult to injury.

honestly though if my car was already towed to the dealership and they wanted 2k to fix, id just let dem do it. the hassle of re-towing the car to another shop and waiting on parts is not how I roll. I have better things to do with my time.

Volko 01-03-2017 07:40 PM

Go for the ZSPEED CMAK. I replaced it myself. No labor costs, only the kit cost!

Jsolo 01-04-2017 12:31 AM

$250 to flush the clutch line is highway robbery!!@#!@#

It takes less than half a 12oz brake fluid bottle to flush the line [very] thoroughly. The labor is practically nil. Let it gravity bleed for a few minutes, making sure to top it off as needed. Once satisfied new fluid is coming out, have a helper pump the pedal a few times to bleed it the traditional way. At most 20 minutes.

I do hope they're applying that $250 as a credit to you repair bill.

hustleman222 01-04-2017 06:15 AM

Royal Nissan in Baton Rouge changed mine out for $1100

Dwight Frye 01-04-2017 04:21 PM

The dealer is crediting me with the $252 I paid last week to flush and refill the clutch fluid. The car will be ready this afternoon. The service writer called and asked if it was OK for the technician to take my car home overnight so that he could be sure that the clutch was operating correctly and that there were no leaks. Are they effing kidding me ??? No way I told him. The technician can drive it around the block and know if it's working and I'll know by the time I get home with the car as well.

I would have said: "Sure no problem, as long as you're willing to give me a loaner GTR over night free of charge".

$2k? That's nuts! Found a local mechanic to install z1 csc elimination kit and a clutch for $500. Shop around.

When they said they would give me a loaner I said sure, I'll take a GTR. They gave me a Nissan Leaf ! All electric dog of a car with only a 105 mile range between charges. Driving it was definitely a strange experience. The only thing I liked about it was that it was very quiet at freeway speeds. I wish my Z was that quiet, it would make long trips and listening to music much more enjoyable.

hustleman222 01-05-2017 05:40 PM

105 miles would be pushing it for me to make it to work and back...wow

I do 130 miles every day round trip and my lot at work doesn't have any charging stations. I would have been like: "Nissan Leaf? No bueno!"

I have always felt a loaner should be comparable to the car you drive or better.
