4.08 gear swap

took a ride up to monroe,nc today, to SOHO motorsports. i had them swap out my gears along with a set of whiteline bushings while the chunk was out.very friendly people to deal with. the gears really wake this thing up. it should have come from Nissan like this. the bushings made a big difference too. on cold pavement, NO wheel hop like normal.their new building is really alot snazzier than the old one. will be very happy to do business with them in the future.

sounds good...enjoy Christopher!

Yes I love my 4.08 ! :driving:

greasebeast 12-23-2016 01:04 AM

I'm thinking about doing the same thing, but leaning toward 4.36. If your car was 90% track use, would you stick with 4.08 or go with 4.36?

masons169 12-23-2016 04:46 AM

i never take it to the track, its my DD, just a lot of spirited runs around town, and when i find some curvy roads. on the highway with 305/30 on rears, im taching right about 3400 at 80moph. but it really runs up through the gears alot quicker. probably would depend on how long the staights are. maybe someone with some track experience could tell you better.

i dropped the pumpkin myself and brought it to the rear end shop in livermore ca for a quaife differential install. i think he charged $250 total. really good dude.

you're pretty far away from livermore but i'd imagine you could freight it over to him or something

Volk Z 12-25-2016 06:23 PM

Yeah the SOHO shop is nice, good bunch of guys. They put my amuse exhaust on a couple months ago... too bad this exhaust is not staying on. Car will have 1500 miles on it and it's 3rd exhaust lol

ChaseZ 12-26-2016 09:56 AM

Was all set to turn 4.08 gears, but ended up going forced induction instead and that's probably a little over the top for the setup so will run the stockers and see how it goes. If there is still room for them in the setup then they will go in for sure :)

nik swapped my uprev tune over to ecutec and really did a fantastic job with it. night and day difference.he was also the one who suggested installing whiteline bushings while the chunk was out . they really know their way around these cars. being a 100 miles away helps. also

Does your cruise control still work after the new gears?

masons169 12-29-2016 05:23 AM

haven evan tried it. i dont use cruise on any of my rides. i will try today and let you know. dont really see why it would affect it.

masons169 12-29-2016 03:56 PM

cruise works just fine

Did you have the Tune swapped before/after the 408 install, or all at the same time?

masons169 12-29-2016 07:15 PM

he did the tune back in january, that made a BIG difference in drivability.the gears really woke it up. that was just last week. they did a great job. they recomended the bushing as well. no more wheel hop. even on cold pavement. cant wait till summer. the launch control may work great then, without blowing the tires off.

astro932 01-01-2017 08:36 AM

so question, does srm still work? and does it mess with the speedo?

masons169 01-01-2017 08:43 AM

yes it still works. i think its off just a touch, but not really noticable.

jchammond 01-01-2017 08:46 AM

Speedometer should be dead on with factory diameter tires; as the speed sensors (2) are located on the output stub shafts...they read it there/ so 3.36,3.69,4.08,4.36 shouldn't change speedometer.....not sure about other features.

Elmo370z 01-01-2017 02:05 PM

Or ecu tek can tune for 4.08 gears

Except 370Z's are out by about 10Kmh at 100Kmh. My speedo reads 100Kmh when I'm going about 90Kmh.:wtf2:

That's 10% (6.2mph) either you have put very short tires on your ~Z~ or something else is going on....mine is near perfect with new rear tires (26.8,26.9") but as they wear down, you can get 1 to 1.5mph slower than readings of speedo....only 1-2%.
You may want to have something looked at/as i haven't heard of one being that far off.
