Throttle won't go above 20%
This happened to me a week ago and I haven't seen it since. 2013 Nismo MT.
I started my car and backed out of my driveway. I noticed the throttle response was a little off. As I went down my street I tried to accelerate quickly, but could only get about 20% power. As I started to push the gas pedal it acted normal, but once the pedal was at about 20% my car didn't respond any more. Even with the pedal to the floor it was as if the pedal was still at 20%. The gear I was in didn't matter. After I got to my destination I restarted my Z and it worked fine. It hasn't come back since. Just a glitch with the drive-by-wire system? Problem with the pedal position sensor? Hopefully just a one time glitch, but it has me worrying. |
Any pending codes?

If there's no pending codes and it doesn't happen again, chalk it up to a glitch in the matrix. If it happens again, I'd start by checking the switches/connections on the pedal itself.

Any tuning software?

Was it purely the throttle or were you limited in RPM? Could have been limp mode, especially if it went away when you restarted the car.

I had something similar happen to me and it turned out to be a bad connection to one of the throttle bodies. I had installed a Stillen SC kit with the A2A upgrade and the car drove fine for many miles and then suddenly it would go into limp mode while driving. Shut the car off and restart would fix it every time. I took all of the cable ties off and re-seated the throttle body connections. This time when I installed new cable ties I made sure to leave the wires a little loose. So far the problem has not come back. Check all your connections on the MAF and throttle bodies. I recommend disconnecting them and then re-connecting them to be sure you hear a click when they seat in the connector.

Hmm, I've been having the same issue off an on over the past few months. But it's been happening more frequently recently. I have a 2013 370z 60k miles Roadster here. The car limped into the stealership while the issue was happening and they said they would hook it up to the diagnostic machine. There was no check engine light on at all and the symptoms were exactly the same, the tech guy took it for a spin to see what the issue was and he said he's not come across this issue before.
They hooked it up and I'm not exactly sure how they were able to determine this (since no check engine light was on) but they said "DIAG DTC P010B STORED DUE TO FAILED MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR BANK 2" They claimed that they took the sensor out and cleaned it and put it back in. Needless to say it worked all day then the next morning the same thing happened. It mainly happens when the engine is cold fyi. The story they told me was that since I had K&N air filters in the car (the oiled kind) that oil had been sucked back into the mass air flow sensor and caused it to go bad. They charged me $97 for the diagnostic read and were wanting to charge me another $260 for a MAF and another $100 to flash my ECU with an update! I was like err.. no, it's ok, I can replace the MAF myself, (since it's a piece of piss to install) and you can pick up a new Cardone MAF for around $160. So I got the part and am going to install today. But I'm not convinced that this is the issue. I contacted Nissan consumer affairs to alert them of the situation as I got the feeling the stealership just want to get there money for the diagnostic, because had they not found anything they wouldn't have charged. In any case Nissan consumer affairs said they will cover the cost of the diagnostic. I'll let you know how I get on once the new MAF is installed. Cheers, and thanks for starting this thread. BB |

did it happen to rain the night before this happened? I have the same issue when it rains and leave my car outside. I found that the driver's side air filter gets soaked with water and it throws the car into a limp mode and gives me a very similar, if not identical issue. only way to know is to check the filter or pull the maf sensor and check for moisture. |
I'm having this same issue, same code. Gonna clean the MAF and throttle body and see if that helps.

Im having the same issue with my 2013 370Z with no mods. Seems to really be an issue on the 2013's from all the research ive done. I haven't had a chance to clean my throttle bodies to try and diagnose the problem due to the weather and the car is stored for winter so there is no getting it out to see how it runs afterwards. Ive tried shutting down the car as some has stated that it would temporarily fix the problem but that doesn't work either. Also it does happen after my car has sat for a long period of time. like 10 hours or more.

I think it's time to get a little more methodical about this so we have some data to talk to Nissan with. Being able to say that many others have this problem will help get this work covered by Nissan.

Good idea, Brad.
Ill have to check with the dealer if they found pending codes, supposedly they didnt when i asked about 2 days ago, car is still in the shop. I believe my car isnt actually limited in RPMs, but seeing that when i stepped on the gas, it did limit RPMs between 2.5-3.5 rpms, depending on gear or RPMs at the moment i stepped on the gas, i didnt want to push the Z hard and risk damaging something else. |

-48K(ish) -Non-Nismo -6MT -Stock Intake -Had the pending code, no CEL. So I had the Throttle Bodies cleaned, Seafoam ran through the system, and the MAF's cleaned with specific MAF cleaner. Throttle body cleaner can work but can cause the seal for the MAF to swell so I opted for the latter MAF cleaner. Issue hasn't popped up again since but only time will tell. |
Update, had the previously mentioned resolved and hasn't resurfaced since. Pending code hasn't come back either.

2014 Nismo - P0101 codes

Nismo 55K Miles 6MT AAM S-Line Mid-pipe. K&N drop in filters. I have this problem repeatedly. No rhyme or reason as to the onset, but my quick remedy is to unplug the passenger MAF (P0101) for 10-15 seconds, blow out the connectors, ( i suspect there is an intermittent connection to the MAF sensor at the plug) and then replug the passenger MAF sensor. The Z starts and runs normally then. No limit to throttle opening or fuel delivery. The problem does abate but the pending code remains and needs to be cleared. |

31k miles Non-Nismo 6MT Stock I just had this happen to me last week (limited throttle response) and took it into the dealership for diagnosis. The car was running horribly, but no check engine light. The next morning was when the check engine light showed with the code P0101. Luckily the dealership told me everything was covered under warranty. (but I see this wasn't the same for some others) They flashed the ECU for me, and so far so good. |
My fix has resolved the issue. Still issue free since performing fix.

Mine hasn't come back since doing almost nothing...so I'm wondering if it is just some sort of glitch on startup.

I purchased a 2013 370Z at the end of February. The car is a Touring with the Sport package, manual transmission in excellent condition with 36000 miles. The second day of ownership the ses or mil light came on. I wasn't too concerned until it went into limp mode a couple of days later ( didn't have any power over 2500-3000 rpms ). I took it to the shop and the codes indicated the MAF sensors were faulty. Replaced the sensors, all was good....for about four days. The ses light came back on wtf!!?? Apparently there is a tsb #15-058 for codes P0101 and P010B for all 2011-2015 370Z coups and roadsters which is an ecu re-flash and should be covered under your emissions warranty. I just had mine done today, hopefully this fixes the issue.

My 2013 has the same problem. Sport package w/ manual trans and no mods. Codes that showed was P0101 P010b P0101 pending P010b pending. Have yet to clean the maf sensor and throttle bodies

50k miles Non-Nismo 6MT Stillen gen 3 This happened to me multiple times over the summer in a 2 week span. Had no codes or cel but I cleaned my mafs made sure all my piping was secure and I haven't had a limp mode since. |

41k Base 6mt HFC/short tails Exact same symptoms. Happened probably 6 times within 2 months (about once a week). Had the throttle bodies cleaned 8 months ago hasn't happened since. 10k miles since cleaning Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk |
Apparently our throttle bodies are very sensitive to very mild build-up. Venting into the intake doesn't help.

20K nismo 6mt Stillen Gen 3, Berk HFC, Meisterschaft 6 or so intermittent times I start from cold and there is lack of power. Did not notice any lights on. Stopped and restarted engine 2-3 times and then full power is back. cleaned MAFs today Why can't I find TSB 15-058 when searching internet? |
I changed out the MAP sensor (got one used from Z1), and it made a big difference. None of the weird throttle/power issues after a long drive. Dealt with it for years. No code either!

This has happened a couple times this winter for me...very frustrating. I can usually drive it and once it's warmed up I restart the car and it works fine.
