Battery Cable Disconnecting.
 

Every once in a while my car completely dies... I found that its because apparently the battery cables/terminals are coming loose...

They are tightened to their full potential but come loose easily...

Are these things easily replaceable? or should I take it to the mechanic, and how much would I be looking at?

Also on a side note, how much should I expect to pay for brake job? Dealership is asking for around $400 per axle? wtf?

You can get lead caps that go on the posts. I had to do this when I put in my Optima battery.

You can also easily make some copper shims out of home plumbing pipe. I've done this several times in the past.

It sounds like they were over-tightened somewhere along the way. Use a torque wrench if you are not sure how to tighten properly (specs should be in FSM).

Search the web for "370Z battery cable". If you want a Nissan-branded replacement, check Courtesy Parts or one of the other online Nissan dealers.

I figured something like this existed, just never had this problem before, thanks.

Chuck and I aren't the only ones. Most people just put you on their ignore list so they don't even see the crap you post. In my experience, while lead caps that slide over the battery posts are a good temporary solution, the best long term solution is to replace the cable ends or the cables themselves. Properly maintained cable ends will tighten up properly and won't require shimming (or installation of copper pipe, screws or whatever jury-rigging people do). I've never had to install some kind of shim to make the battery cable terminal tighten on the post of the battery.

Various nissan cars I've worked non readily accept battery post shims which effectively makes the posts a little thicker thereby allowing the cable terminals to tighten up better. As always clean terminals and posts to a bright and shiny condition and use some anti corosion grease. $5.00 and 20 minutes should alleviate the issue plus it's cheaper than new terminals and much easier.
