I've seen a good amount of buzz on Quaife and OS Giken, as to be expected since they're two of the best options in the differential segment but I've seen nothing on Tomei for the 370Z. It's about $200-300 cheaper than all others and offers options for Open and VLSD equipped cars, and you can select 1.5 or 2 way:

Why am I not seeing more on this? Is it too harsh/loud for daily driving? If you have one, please share your thoughts on it.

From what I have been told by folks with one they can be harsh and tough to daily drive. All clutch types can be noisey, bindy, etc.

Yes all clutch based differentials are all that and more. But when they lock up, there is nothing like it :eek:

Besides when it pops turning a corner, it scares the piss out of the newbies, in the parking lot :p

Put some anti friction additive in the diff to calm the grabbyness of the clutches for the street.

LOL, I have a OS Giken diff..

The OS Giken Super Lock is actually one of the most well mannered clutch diffs out there, the only one I like better is the ATS carbon unit.


The Tomei diff works very well, but there is not much adjustability to it and its a little more "harsh" than the others. Makes it slightly less desirable in the street cars.

I love my quaife, but...

It's no good in the snow. You need SOME grip for it to work. as soon as you lift a wheel or hit ice it stops working and acts like an open diff.

I have a Cusco 1.5 that I picked up on sale back in the day. One of those deals it was hard to turn down. Back then there were not as many choices as there are today ..... Christ I'm old lol

Every time it pops or clunks I think of how much I saved in the day. Burn outs are good and even on the drag radials:driving:

I have a Wavetrac and its like Quaife but better!:stirthepot:

The reason I say that is because it does lock similar to a clutch type. It is basically an upgraded Quaife as the company that make Wavetrac was part of Quaife before they split off.

Also there is a brand new Wavetrac for sale in the for sale thread at really good price.

I also have the Cusco 1.5 and yes loud and clunky, but what a performer it is, especially on the track.

Wavetrac hands down the way to go. Used in many high hp/tq platforms.

Disk's wear and have to be replaced, gears not so much.

+1 on the Wavetrac!
