2016 370Z Sport Dealer no help with oil cooler

I just bought a 2016 370Z Sport Coupe a couple weeks ago. As several threads that exist already talk about engine oil temps running hot and I have seen it myself. I would like to purchase the NISMO Oil Cooler Part Number: 21300-SS370 that was mentioned various times. My dealer seems to be unable to find the part for this. Any help on where I can get the geniune Nissan part which is what I prefer as well as recommendations on a dealership or someone in the Indy area trustworthy to install it would be greatly appreciated? My current dealer's service department isn't boosting my confidence in their doing it as they seem to have never done this install before or be able to find the part. Thankful for any help or guidance anyone can give.

The only thing you get by going with the Nismo cooler over Fast Intentions or Z1 is a lighter wallet. If you can change your own oil, you're fully capable of installing the oil cooler yourself. If not, offer local guys pizza and beer to do it. This isn't something you really should be paying labor for.

Thanks for the info, my concern was in regards to voiding my warranty by adding an oil cooler that wasn't a Nissan part or by not having a dealer handle the install. Is that a non-issue?

That's not how the warranty works. A claim may be denied, but the warranty cannot just be voided by adding an aftermarket part or having someone other than a dealer perform work. Now, they can deny a claim if the aftermarket part or its install causes the damage. For example, if the oil cooler has a line fail (very unlikely) and starve the engine of oil, that claim would be denied. If you add the oil cooler and an unrelated part breaks, the warranty claim would be honored.

Also not mentioned is the Nismo cooler is a race/track cooler. It has no thermostatic plate so it is horrible for street, especially with winter coming.

Good catch. I didn't know that. OP, you want a large (25-34 row) oil cooler with a thermostatic sandwich plate. You'll likely have to make a block-off plate for it in winter months, but that's an easy project.

Thanks for all the great info.

One more thing I was just looking at the Fast Intentions Cooler based on your recommendation. If I get the version with the thermostatic plate I wouldn't need to make a block for winter use correct? My understanding is below a certain oil temp the thermostatic plate shunts the oil around the cooler.

Thanks again for all the help.

The thermostatic plate doesn't block 100% of the oil flow. If it did, you'd get a slug of cold, thick oil when it opened. So you still have 10% or so flowing through it even when closed. That means you may need a block off plate if you're seeing temps <160 when you're just cruising. Too cold oil is just as bad as too hot oil.

this ^. Not to confuse you more op but two reasons I personally went with the z1 over F.I. is that the F.I. makes you remove the factory oil to water cooler/heater/stabilizer depending who you ask. I like having it on as then the warmer water will help heat the cold oil in cooler temps, yes it may prevent you from having the most absolute cool oil possible and may be an issue of running a TT setup as it was designed to run with the F.I. kit but for NA I don't think you'll ever notice. Other reason is z1 uses -10 AN hose size just like the Nismo race cooler vs -8AN so I figure Nismo probably has a good clue about what's needed for oil flow/cooling when tracking their z's and z1 uses same size.

Either one I'm sure is great as F.I. Has a long history of good products but I thought I would just give my reasons why I chose what I chose.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I will definitely check out the Z1 cooler before I make my final decision. I plan on staying normally aspirated and would prefer to stay reasonably close to stock. At least for now:)
