oil pressure on ODBII
is it possible to add an oil pressure sensor that would send the reading to ECU (i guess) so that my ODBII adapter could pick it up and display oil presssure on my Torque app?

not possible unfortunately. you can get oil temperature though.

I doubt that it is possible but...
I'd start by doing a web search for your ECM's model/part/code number. You may be able to find an input for oil pressure that just needs a sensor hooked up. Or you may be able to suss something from the FSM. |
Supposedly, EcuTek RaceRom has oil pressure as a custom logging entry, but I'm not sure what it reports. As I understand it, the stock sensor is an on/off type (I.e. "Your engine is already dead"). Personally, I'd like to install a dedicated sensor hooked up to a gauge that replaces the clock. I've taken measures to mitigate oil starvation, but I'd like to know if they're working! :)

Add an extended to the OEM pressure port, place the OEM sender in one hole in the extender and a 30psi analogue sender that drives power to a big red light on the dash so that the light comes on if pressure drops below 30psi.
The alternative is to piggy-back off the ECU input as has been suggested and run that to an aftermarket dash (which can also take an OBDII feed). There are lots of these options, from Motec/Haltech/RacePak down to chinois EBay specials. The ECU pin-outs are in the FSM |

The OEM pressure sensor is exactly that, it varies voltage (0-5v from memory which should indicate something like 0-100psi) depending on pressure in the oil gallery. If you piggy-back the OEM pin into the ECU you will get a pressure reading with a digital gauge. You "could" piggy-back directly from the OE pressure switch as well but that is a longer cable run.
The FSM has the spec's. I printed the pages and have them somewhere in my study at home, but I am 100kms from home at present so a bit difficult to take a peek right now as I am at work. |
Ok i got it, thanks, no need to look it up because i'll be getting defi gauges which will come with a sensor, i just tought it would be great to get psi in torque app

Pretty sure CJM has a kit to add an oil pressure gauge to the Z. But it is located in the engine bay. And is analog I think. Obviously that won't work with the torque app though.
