Fuel Sending Unit. HELP!

1 Attachment(s)
As the title says, my fuel sending unit is acting up. To make a long story short, today i pulled out my pump/sending unit and am going to perform a resistance test to determine if the issue is the sending unit. (my gas gauge works fine till half a tank, then it gets stuck at half a tank till i fill it up past half) Anyways, i haven't had much experience with sending units, but i did notice something looked odd so ill add a picture of it. This plastic top piece is supposed to be attached to the bottom correct? When i removed the unit, all the weight of the pump was on the electrical wires.

Any input would be great! Thanks fellow Z owners. :tiphat:

The buckets and top are connected by 2 rods with a spring and threads on the end of the rod.

Thanks!

Hmmm I see. I guess my plastic top piece broke off somehow. Thanks for the pics and help! Just ordered a new one that cost me 178dollars that comes with the gasket as well.

can you give me a link to where you got it for that price?

I got it from Nissan of Murfreesboro. Sending unit was 150 by itself.

Seeing a few victims of this failure lately.

Maybe its time I cut a batch of billet tops for the fuel pumps to solve this.

Love the idea, but hate the thought about pulling mine out with the RRP hoses though.

If you dont put the small plastic c-clip back on, you can place the lower half of the module in the tank, hook up the hoses, and then put the top back on. Once installed to the tank, the spring compresses and the c-clip isnt doing anything anyway. If anyone wanted to make it easy, that would be a useful trick

Yeah its pretty annoying, I got both the sending units out but im waiting on Nissan to get my new parts in. I've been looking for the specs of the resisitor for the sending units to diagnose if it is actually the reason my gas gauge is messed up. Obviously, ill replace the one that was broeken in half, but as for the other one it seems to be in working order. Anyone know what the resistance should be for these sending units? ill keep looking through FSM, but if anyone knows it off of the top of their head you will be much apprciated. One of them is reading 90 while mimicking a empty tank and 35 when full. The other is 70 when empty, and 40 when at top, so something is up.
