Exhaust Hiss - Honest Thought ?!

Hey guys!

I had a 350z with OBX resonated test pipes and an HKS rep exhaust. For the money sounded unreal. Sold the car to my brother and bought a 2016 370z. Thought "why not get the same setup" so i did. Install went great. Getting that notorious "hiss" on decel from about 3000-2000rpm. Sounds cheap. Ive seen a ton of soundclips and it seems depending on which application varies how prominent the "hiss" is. I was thinking of starting by going to Stillen HFC seeing as though the resonance is generated from the cats and basically vibrates down into the Y pipe. Can anyone weigh in on their thoughts or provide advice. Not ideal to spend 800$ on HFC but i want this hiss atleast cut in half for noise otherwise ill be forced to re install the stock cats :(

Welcome to the infamous VQ hiss. Some people like it  and some don't :ugh2:

I'm running the FI CBE with resonated test pipes and I have it. Yeah, it's normal. Oh well.

Yeah im definitely becoming excepting of it. But some soundclips i hear im thinkin' "wow thats not as bad as mine" just sorta lookin for best case scenario. Jealous of your FI they are a beautiful sounding CBE :)

I run Stillen HFCs and the hiss is pretty noticeable. Even with resonated mid-pipes.

On my G37 I got rid of the hiss with FI RHFC's and a Motordyne XYZ Y-pipe. At first I attributed conquering the hiss to the resonator section of the Motordyne, but when I replaced the resonator with the open section the hiss was still gone.

what are the chances you could provide a nice soundclip? Your saying if I replace my OBX resonated test pipes with the fast intentions RHFC you figure most of it will go away even if I dont do the motordyne xyz pipe?

FI RHFC will definitely cut down the hiss but I don't think it will eliminate it completely.

https://youtu.be/W9n7KVIYbWk without resonator If you search my uploads there are three other clips. I had a cheap Beluga exhaust that was'nt all that bad in the end.

I think the hiss sounds good! every time i rev it for someone they always comment on it and say, "oh that hiss is kinda cool"

FI CBE 18" Res

Thanks for the soundclip! Only problem with the FI RHFC is that they advertise it as their "quietest" option. Which in that case id just go back to stock cats. Im not so much wanting the power as I am wanting the sound quality. I did some research and it sounds like ARK R-Spec HFC have found a way to take down hiss dramatically. Although expensive this might be my best option to keep sound, flow and rid the hiss...

**** im running ppe long tubes, aam mid pipe and the tomie and the car is too loud to even hear a hiss

There's also the art pipes, from what I have read, they almost eliminate the hiss. Not only that ,they do sound amazing.

I've done motoreyne art pipes + fast intentions stainless steel 18" resonators exhaust and now fast intentions double resonated test pipes + fast intentions exhaust. Hiss was there with both setups.

I'm not a fan of the hiss so I've kept my cats stock for now to go along with my F.I. setup. You won't get the hiss keeping the stock cats.
