I am the original owner of my '09. Have the original CSC, just turned over 55,000 miles. No problems with the clutch. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Inspector71 11-13-2015 09:41 AM

I didn't make it

Mine began to fail around 32K miles. Constant problem. Dealer would not fix and then the warranty expired before the 3rd failure. I just bought a 2015 and, when I make it to 36K, I'm getting the hd replacement pronto

tonythetiger 11-16-2015 04:12 PM

its sad that nissan will not recall the z34 and get this replaced!

90 ST 11-16-2015 06:11 PM

They wont ever do a recall at this point on it, cause
A they would have to fix everyone's MT car.
B they would have to reimburse everyone that has paid out of pocket to have it done, some more then once... :(

Lets just hope they fix the problem with the next one

confucius 11-27-2015 09:27 PM

This has been on my mind lately since...2013 - now 30 months old/62,k miles. So far book scheduled maintenance. Daily spirited driven.

Inspector71 11-30-2015 11:15 AM

Hope it is fixed

I have a 2015 with 3015 miles and may be driving from Missouri to Texas. Hope this does not go out. At 36K miles, when the warranty expires, I am getting the aftermarket fix

Kzonts 11-30-2015 01:36 PM

2015 Sport with close to 12k... No issues yet.

birdman71 11-30-2015 02:33 PM

2009 Base/Touring 370z m/t 98k on original csc

Any advice to delay the failure?

Not to ruin this for you but I had mine go on my 2016 at 1200 miles and drove a dealer z with 2 miles had it go out on me during the test drive. Nothing you can do

I put the high temp fluid in mine... I I have 3 years on mine at about 38k

King_Ch1cas 12-11-2015 06:34 PM

I'm at 123,000 miles on the original csc and it feels fair so far. No need to change it yet, but when I have the the money I will.

Z370Z011 12-11-2015 09:29 PM

Mine went out twice lol... took it to Nissan, didn't even make it out of the dealership before the new one went out again.

2011 model, went out at 45k

My 2009 has 38K miles, 2 seasons of SCCA autocross and 10 track days. Original CSC. But my 5th gear synchros just started crunching a couple weeks ago at VIR. Bah.

The top four causes of seal failure in hydraulic cylinders

It's the seal that leaks, there are many things that can cause seal failure. So the only ones we can affect, can't prevent improper assembly, are the following.

Hydraulic system contamination. Inspect your fluid often, does it look black or discolored? Then you should probably have it changed.

Heat degradation. Making sure your clutch fluid line isn't too close to an aftermarket cat or test pipe. Unfortunately the CSC itself is fixed right in a very hot area.

ayrton88 12-14-2015 09:47 AM

When I had my BMW they insisted on having the clutch and brake fluid changed every two years. Never had a problem with that car's clutch, ( even though much of the rest of the car fell apart) , so I'm changing mine in the Z every two years as well. So far so good.

eastwest2300 12-19-2015 03:14 PM

I've got a 2010, and I replaced my CSC at 7000 miles just be on the safe side. I went with the Zspeed setup, along with a new CMC, stage 2 clutch and light flywheel..

beemerkid 01-07-2016 02:33 PM

Update- im at 10K miles now and Ive noticed ive been losing fluid in mine slowly. over 5k miles of mostly highway driving (ie not a lot of clutch use) I lost maybe an 1/8th inch of fluid, same as my first 5K. no sign of poor performance but the fluid is going....somewhre.

Keep an eye on the level. Chances are the csc seal is starting to leak.

axmea? 01-08-2016 12:42 AM

I have my original still. It's in my garage closet.

Failed twice at 6K and 59K so I am on my 3rd. Master cylinder --- I'm on my 2nd. Now I have the Tilton racing slave. So far so good. Feels slightly firmer than stock. Engagement is just right - not on the top or high.

Inspector71 01-08-2016 07:13 AM

Axmea?

If that is your white car, I'm jealous. People at work thought I was nuts to buy a second Z after the trouble I had with my 09 and the csc going out 3 times and the dealer not fixing it. I tell them the CSC is but one part, not the whole car and I can't get this driving experience and package in any other car at near the price. Several posters have recommended changing the master cylinder with the CSC. I plan to buy the after market CSC and replace the factory one at 36K when the warranty expires. I was thinking of replacing everything at the same time. Not sure if I should go with a different clutch either as some have recommended. Mine is street driven, not raced. I would climb over Porsche 911s just to get a good look at your car...

I didn't bother to replace the clutch when I replaced my working CSC with the Z1 kit at 51K miles; I shouldn't have any trouble getting another 50K out of it. Unless you plan to do more than drive on the street or don't know how to drive a MT, there will be absolutely no reason to replace the clutch at 36K miles.

Thanks for the reply. Whew, that is a big relief to read. So far so good with the white beauty I have. I was out of a Z for 11 months and man its good to be back. Really good news here.

Jayhovah 01-08-2016 11:25 AM

My 2011 got to almost 40k (car totaled) and it was going strong.
My 2013 is at 24k and I'll be changing it out next week with a new clutch and flywheel, but the stocker is fine at the moment.

Jsolo 01-08-2016 01:31 PM

Changing fluid often is probably the best way to avoid damaging the CSC seals. At least every 2-3 years. In fact, same time brake fluid is flushed is probably the best.

21K and no issues so far (g37).

I do it 1-2 times per year :tiphat:

Same with brake fluid. I can gravity bleed the clutch without a helper, and I have a power bleeder for my brakes. Super easy and <$50 in fluid for both each change. No reason not to do it.

Dubro 09-24-2016 10:22 PM

Failed at 51000 miles

2010 Nismo. 51000 miles at CSC failure. Installing Z1 CSC elimination kit and RBM CMC. Installing new clutch. Reusing flywheel.

2011 Nismo#91 09-26-2016 08:28 AM

I upgraded mine (z1 elimination kit) at 5yrs 36k miles, was proactive not due to failure.

KatmanII 09-28-2016 03:00 PM

2014 with 20k miles so far on the OEM CSC. Running an RJM pedal set up to minimize over travel. Oil cooler and fully insulated clutch hydro lines help keep clutch fluid cooler. Original fluid is still pristine.

RumbleFish 09-28-2016 05:38 PM

changed the the GTR brake fluid @ 28k mi. and haven't had a problem since...a little over 41K now

Dreadnaught 09-28-2016 07:28 PM

2014 with 28.5k miles. I'll probably do the csc delete in the nearish future. I plan to flush all of my fluids except the coolant at 30k.

greasebeast 09-29-2016 01:07 AM

62k just switched it out

Also noticed with a aftermarket clutch assembly it will kill a stock CSC VERY fast.

First OE one I got 133,000 miles, the current OE one i'm over 64,000 miles on it. found my old invoices....

What does CSC and CSM stand for?

CSC = Clutch Slave Cylinder (actuates clutch)
CMC = Clutch Master Cylinder (connected to clutch pedal)
CSM = ???

B&W_Evader 09-05-2017 10:44 AM

75k still running on original OEM. If/when it goes out there will be upgrades.

Elmo370z 09-05-2017 10:55 AM

49k, about to swap in a cmak and twin disk clutch

KngScottieV 09-06-2017 02:52 AM

27k on my '13. 20+ autocross events and like 10+ roadrace's. I'm just waiting for it to hit the floor one day.

MacCool 09-06-2017 08:24 AM

My 2014 has about 22,000 miles...clutch working fine.

I note that for the 2018 model-year "every Z® with manual-transmission enjoys a new EXEDY® high-performance clutch, for reduced pedal effort and enhanced precision and control." I'll bet the current CSC is EOL.
