2015 lots of random engine noise when at 220

So I have a 2015 and I have been getting this noise out of my vq after it gets warm around 220.

Then after it sat for about 45 minutes it went back to this

Ok how about now

Z_ealot 07-13-2015 04:13 PM

i think its pretty normal for the vq37 as mine does it also when running at those temps, oil level is fine and everything and doesnt seem to hurt it so never thought anything of it

juld0zer 07-14-2015 03:00 AM

sounds normal. I think it's the valvetrain noise that you're referring to.
The noise varies depending on the oil you use.

Zoren 370 07-14-2015 05:56 AM

Its normal its the VVL makes that noise. Switch to Redline synthetic 5W/30 the noise will go down a little or use the Nissan Ester oil

BTW our Z is not one of the nicest engine sound out there in a sports car. Learn to live it. :-)

Just curious, are you using Nissans recommended engine oil, the Nissan "Super Oil" with Ester or something else? The Nissan oil is specifically formulated to reduce noise and friction in the valve train.

Nissan has a "Super Oil"?

Or

Your referring to Nissan Ester oil?

sounds 100% normal.

The VQ has a very distinct sound.

The attached oil is the recommended formulation for all VQ engines with the Hitachi VVEL valvetrain.

I found that an oil with a high moly content definitely helped to reduce the valvetrain noise at 'higher' oil temps such as after a hard run
